Chapter 18
"Th... thank you."
Su Lin murmured his thanks.
A strange sensation lingered deep within his body, refusing to fade, and it left him somewhat quiet for the rest of the journey.
Medises, on the other hand, was as cold and calm as ever.
He watched Su Lin enter the scarcely visited library, looking somewhat disheveled. After ordering several small, armed private robots to "protect Su Lin" and stationing them at the library entrance, Medises turned and headed down the corridor.
But he had not gone far before he stopped.
"Carlos Pale Calamity." The silver-haired Zerg turned without concern to face the dark figure emerging one step at a time from around the corner. His eyes were clear; he had evidently noticed the other's presence long ago.
"You should be waiting in the conference room, so what are you doing here?"
Medises asked calmly.
Author's note:
Scammer teacher: Look here, look here. This problem goes like this, blabla...
Little Grove (183): I've mastered it, I've mastered it! (Looking confident)
Scammer teacher: That's not what it means at all, aaaaaaah! (Clutching his head)
==========
Little Mei: Thank you, teacher.
Chapter 18
What a disgusting face.
Carlos thought as he looked at Medises.
Things really should not have turned out this way. Carlos Pale Calamity had never been the impulsive type, and he did not think he "should" have fallen out so badly with a partner over a low-grade larva.
Su Lin belonged to the Dew Nest, so it was only natural for Medises to possess him.
The only reason Carlos felt so upset was that Medises had taken Su Lin from him with such a condescending attitude. All his resentment and anger stemmed from the insult to his dignity...
Carlos had kept telling himself that ever since Medises took Su Lin away.
But when he came to the Security Committee for a meeting and happened to catch sight of Su Lin's familiar figure, he slowly followed them without thinking, as if some ghost or monster had taken complete control of him.
He smelled the strong pheromones of another high-ranking male Zerg on Su Lin.
He saw how the young man obeyed Medises in everything.
He also saw the bands on Su Lin's wrists and ankles that marked him as a servant Zerg.
Carlos did not understand why he was so angry.
"Lord Medises."
Carlos's mouthparts made a faint clicking sound, which was hardly a friendly sign from a Pale Calamity. Still, years of exceptional self-control allowed Carlos to suppress the loathing for Medises deep in his heart.
"I just happened to be passing through, and you're late, my lord. I only came out for some air."
He responded coldly.
That was a lie, of course, and he was quite sure Medises could see it plainly. The silver-haired Zerg responded with a glance at Carlos and the hint of a smile.
"My new servant Zerg is timid and very dependent on me, so I had to make time to take him to his workplace. I notified the optical computer in advance to change the meeting time," Medises said calmly. "But I suppose you were too busy 'getting some air' to notice?"
Medises's face was largely expressionless, yet to Carlos, he looked exceptionally smug. ,
For a moment, Carlos really wanted to throw all caution aside, rush forward, and tear this disgusting Blood Wing to pieces with his claws. Fortunately, he soon calmed down.
After all, he was certain that even Medises could not defy Ariel's wishes.
That unfortunate larva would return to his side in the end. And Carlos swore he would never, like Medises, be so eager to force and humiliate him, put him in shackles, and make him a "servant Zerg"...

"Achoo-"
In the library deep within the spaceship, Su Lin sneezed hard.
Ah, just what I'd expect from a Zerg library. There's so much dust.
As a librarian who had stumbled into the job in a daze, Su Lin was not particularly enthusiastic about going to work and had not expected much from his new position. Even so, when he entered the library, he was startled by the sorry sight inside. Su Lin suspected that, since the ship was built, probably no Zerg had ever thought of coming in here.
Like the other compartments, it was spherical, with walls made of translucent biological material, but for some reason, this library had an especially rundown, dilapidated atmosphere. Bookshelves of all different designs stood crookedly and haphazardly around the room. Su Lin seriously suspected that these shelves were human-made trash the Zerg had picked up from battlefields. The shelves themselves looked bad enough, and the books on them were pitifully few.
Su Lin slowly approached the shelves, growing increasingly convinced that his earlier guess was right. Otherwise, it was hard to explain why the vast majority of books in the Zerg Security Committee's library were human books. Among those few books, Su Lin even saw such terrifying titles as "Oh My God, Why Are the Seven Zerg Lords Fighting Over Me?" and "That Night, the Zerg Emperor's Eyes Turned Red for Me."
Every human character was perfectly ordinary on its own, but put together, they had a dizzying effect.
Clearly, when the Zerg collected these books, they had probably picked up on the keyword "Zerg" and mistakenly thought they contained human perceptions of them, so they had kept the books.
Su Lin took a deep breath.
By the time he realized it, he found that he had already started working without thinking.
