Background / History

Blood Wing upbringing

Medises grew up in Blood Wing, a high-ranking colony second only to the royal family. Dew Nest, a physically weak colony whose members produced honey, had served Blood Wing in exchange for protection before being declared extinct following a wartime attack decades earlier 21 22.

At a Blood Wing banquet, Medises witnessed his father and older brothers consume honey from Dew Nest individuals until their victims collapsed. He originally found these memories repulsive; his later craving for Su Lin’s honey forces him to confront the same predatory instincts in himself 50.

Infiltration of the human world

The empire sent Medises into human territory under the identity of He Zisen. His exceptional strength made the assignment comparatively survivable: according to his own assessment, even as a larva he could destroy three units of small human interstellar patrol ships within fifteen minutes and had over a seventy-percent chance of escaping pursuit if exposed. He does not disclose the mission’s precise objective to Su Lin 31.

As He Zisen, he was Su Lin’s school senior on the Border Planet. Su Lin learned to soften his cold temper by appearing harmless and trusting. When Su Lin later left for Xingchuan University, He Zisen confronted him at the boarding area, allowed him to leave, and warned him never to appear again 20 22.

During another mission, Medises investigated Professor Xue Yao’s background and observed him speaking with Su Lin about his dedication to research. This prior knowledge later shapes Medises’s belief that Xue Yao deliberately engineered Su Lin’s transformation 32 33.

Appearance

• Human mimicry: A tall, silver-haired man with a beautiful but habitually cold face. Su Lin recognizes his resemblance to He Zisen immediately, though Medises is taller than he remembers 20 23 24.
• Eyes: Normally pale blue-green or cyan; his pupils can narrow to slits, and his eyes become silver-like during intense emotional or instinctive reactions 23 24 31 48.
• Partial transformation: Can expose sharp insect forelimbs, scales, feather-like antennae, and spined mouthparts while retaining an otherwise humanoid appearance 21 25 29 45 50.
• True form: A huge, scarlet insectoid body covered in hard scales, with cutting claws and a venomous stinger 34.
• Mechanical wings: Gray metal replacements rather than natural wings. Their advanced weaponry contrasts sharply with his red body; the circumstances of their installation are not explained 34.

Personality

Medises is renowned for composure and cruelty. Subordinates fear him as a merciless executioner and torturer, and he remains outwardly calm while inflicting pain or asserting authority. His controlled manner often conceals hostility rather than an absence of emotion 20 23 47.

His attachment to Su Lin combines protectiveness, jealousy, and coercion. He insists on being called “Master,” treats Su Lin as private property, and repeatedly interprets attempts to placate him as calculated seduction. Carlos’s interest provokes particular resentment 24 25 29 41.

Nevertheless, Su Lin’s vulnerability can interrupt his aggression. Medises immediately changes course upon realizing that he has hurt Su Lin’s fledgling wings, provides medical care, and eventually chooses ordinary library work over making Su Lin his exclusive honey source 30 33 39.

His protection is not unconditional freedom. Privately, he imagines Su Lin remaining beside him forever. By the time Su Lin begins secreting honey, Medises must actively restrain the urge to feed on him, with Su Lin’s appeals helping restore his self-control 34 50.

• Carlos Pale Calamity — Negotiating counterpart and rival over Su Lin. Medises rejects Carlos’s claim of responsibility and refuses his offer of three kilograms of benzoin spice in exchange for Su Lin 25 26.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Claiming Su Lin

After detecting an unusual fragrance, Medises takes over Su Lin’s bloodline examination. The Dew Nest result gives him grounds to claim Su Lin through the colony’s historical subordination to Blood Wing. He bites Su Lin’s neck, overwhelms Carlos’s pheromone mark, and orders Su Lin transferred to his private quarters under an automatic property-protection protocol 21 22 23 31.

Su Lin recognizes him as He Zisen despite his initial refusal to acknowledge “Senior.” After a violent confrontation injures Su Lin’s sensitive wings, Medises examines them and explains his identity as an imperial infiltrator 24 29 30 31.

Concealment aboard the Security Committee Ship

Medises arranges treatment and attempts to conceal Su Lin’s mixed nature with nutrient solution. He assigns him library work rather than the exclusive honey-source role he had originally considered. When the resulting Dew Nest scent attracts other Blood Wings, he injects Su Lin with his own pheromone fluid and places armed guards outside the library 33 36 39 40 41.

Conflict with Ariel

Ariel’s arrival threatens both Su Lin’s safety and the Security Committee’s political negotiations. Medises refuses to surrender Su Lin as a nectar source, openly stating his importance despite nearly losing control of his mimicry 44 45.

Suspecting Ariel will return, Medises abandons negotiations with the Pale Calamity, cuts communications, and orders the ship to leave by an indirect warp route 47.

Honey Secretion and Genetic Fusion

When Su Lin’s wing sacs begin secreting honey, Medises explains the ongoing fusion of his human and Zerg genes. The honey nearly overwhelms his restraint, but he withdraws his exposed mouthparts when Su Lin asks for help. He promises to handle the problem, although the lingering scent continues to test his control 48 49 50.
