Chapter 21
"It's all right, senior," Su Lin said softly, soothing the man in front of him. "Look, aren't I still right here? Don't make it sound like I've already run off with someone else."
Chapter 21
To Su Lin's relief, Medises didn't remain distraught for long.
Before the unlucky human's ribs were actually crushed, the silver-haired Zerg finally let him go.
"Next time you run into him... forget it. I'll find a way to keep you away from him."
Medises' face was grim as he murmured to Su Lin.
And an ominous premonition had already risen in Su Lin's heart.
"Did I cause you trouble again?"
he asked fearfully.
Medises gazed at the young man before him, whose face had gone pale with fear. At the thought of Ariel's self-righteous expression as he demanded Su Lin from him, intense loathing and hostility toward the royal Zerg candidate rose in his heart once more.
And swelling alongside them was resentment at his own weakness.
If only he were a little stronger.
If only he possessed strength equal to that monster's.
Then he wouldn't have to worry about Su Lin being taken away.
"No. It has nothing to do with you."
The silver-haired Zerg took a deep breath and answered.
"You just happened to run into that madman at a very unfortunate time. It was my oversight."
He had never once guarded against the possibility that Ariel's remote psychic projection could invade the Security Committee's ship.
Medises then briefly explained just how insane Ariel was, which easily left the already terrified Su Lin trembling even harder-so he had apparently brushed past the gates of hell without even realizing it?!
If Medises had given in just a little and handed him over to that disgusting cross-dressing pervert, he might have been killed before he even knew what was happening, right?
A bone-deep chill shot down Su Lin's spine, and his gaze turned even more ardent as he looked at Medises.
Senior really was his only lifeline here, wasn't he!!
If Su Lin's dedication to hugging a thigh had been at a hundred before, then after going through such a life-or-death crisis, his enthusiasm for being Medises' simp had risen to two hundred.
"How could it have been your oversight, senior? If it weren't for you, I'd have been taken away just now." Su Lin patted his chest lightly and steadied himself. He looked at Medises with complete sincerity, his tone earnest. "Thank you for protecting me, senior. Being able to meet you here... I'm really lucky."
So please, boss, protect your little brother next time too, aaah, or I'll really die!!
Su Lin prayed to Medises over and over in his heart.
"Mm, I will."
Medises' expression froze for a moment when he heard Su Lin say "lucky." A moment later, he solemnly made the young man his promise.
Several hours later-
In the central control center of the Security Committee's ship.
"Terminate negotiations with the Pale Calamity. Leave the Calamity collective's tractor range immediately and use an indirect warp route to the base."
Medises issued his orders to the crew in the control room, his face expressionless.
The order was so sudden that even the lower-ranking Zerg, who held Medises in utter awe, couldn't help questioning it in confusion.
"Lord Medises? What's going on? Aren't we continuing our talks with the Pale Calamity? But our meetings were proceeding normally before."
one of his subordinates asked in astonishment.
"Yes, His Highness Ariel is about to forge a new king's throne. This is our last chance to improve relations with His Highness."
Hearing Ariel's name from his subordinates once again, the silver-haired Zerg sitting in the commander's seat darkened.
But he offered no explanation.
"Carry out the order."
He repeated his command, his pale blue eyes slowly sweeping over the many Zerg below him in the command room. Under his gaze, not a single Zerg dared to voice another objection.
The two Zerg who had spoken up earlier even began to tremble uncontrollably.
Damn it, how could they have forgotten...
Even if the silver-haired Zerg's aura had been much gentler these past few days than before, he was still Medises Blood Wing.
That cold-blooded, merciless executioner and torturer.
Blood Wing's pressure filled the control room. All the Zerg immediately began to obey Medises' wishes, abruptly cutting contact with the Pale Calamity fleet and forcibly breaking away from the tractor field between the Zerg tribal fleets.
The sudden move prompted a stream of inquiries from the Pale Calamity's side, but Medises simply severed communications between them. This left the other Zerg, who had been watching him all along, even more bewildered and uneasy.
As for Medises himself, it was naturally not out of simple disgust for Ariel that he had terminated their cooperation so decisively.
He simply had a hunch that the situation was about to become dangerous.
After all, the Security Committee's vehement opposition to Ariel the Saint over the past few decades had not been based on simple dislike. Their opposition was founded on their investigation of Ariel.
The willful, reckless, mad and foolish monster brought nothing but madness and destruction.
No one knew what he would do, or why he would do it.
Precisely because Medises knew him so well, Ariel's considerate, straightforward departure from the library had brought him no relief at all, only deeper wariness.
He had a premonition that the monster would come again.
And this time...
"Ah."
Deep in the distant reaches of space.
Deep beneath the surface of the Zerg Empire's most central planet.
