Background / History

Early Life and Shrek Academy

Jin Yu transmigrated into the Douluo Continent thirteen years before the story begins. His parents died during his childhood, and a friend of his father raised him near Shrek Academy. After awakening his Martial Soul, he learned that he descended from Spirit Hall’s Second Worship, Golden Crocodile Douluo 1.

He began studying combat before awakening his Martial Soul: watching Soul Masters at three, practicing their movements at four, and sparring with other children at five. By six, he had learned a broad range of fighting techniques 15.

At twelve, Jin Yu entered Shrek Academy alongside Huo Yuhao, Tang Wutong, and Xiao Xiao. He defeated their team in the freshman assessment and took first place. After entering his second year, he represented Shrek as a tournament substitute and helped the academy win the championship 1.

False Accusation and Escape

Following the Holy Spirit Cult’s attack on Shrek Academy, several Soul Bones disappeared from its treasure pavilion. Jin Yu had sheltered nearby but had not entered the building. Tang Wutong, then known as Wang Dong, nevertheless accused him of theft. Her hostility stemmed from their rivalry and his repeated defense of Spirit Hall 1 5.

Shrek’s authorities accepted the accusation without a careful investigation. Huo Yuhao also believed Wang Dong despite considering Jin Yu one of his best friends. When Xuan Zi attempted to kill him, Jin Yu activated his previously unused spacetime system and escaped to a parallel timeline ten thousand years earlier 1.

His first visit allowed only one hour in the earlier era and permitted him to bring back one blood relative. Using an inherited Spirit Hall Elder Token, Jin Yu reached the Worship Hall and convinced its seven Enshrined of his origins by revealing closely guarded secrets. Golden Crocodile Douluo accompanied him back and intervened against Xuan Zi 2 3.

Changing Spirit Hall’s Future

After escaping Shrek, Jin Yu and his ancestor traveled west to the Sun Moon Empire. Jin Yu then returned to the earlier era, seeking Immortal Herbs and training to prepare for the next Soul Master Tournament 5 6.

He warned Spirit Hall’s Enshrined that Tang San would inherit the Sea God and Asura God’s powers and destroy their faction within twenty years. He urged Qian Daoliu to recall Qian Renxue from her Heaven Dou infiltration mission so she could prioritize cultivation and her divine inheritance 6 7.

Jin Yu led Qian Daoliu and Golden Crocodile Douluo to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well before Tang San could claim its herbs. He also persuaded them to capture Dugu Bo rather than kill him, arguing that his poison abilities could become an asset to Spirit Hall 7 8.

The gathered herbs strengthened Jin Yu, Qian Renxue, and the Enshrined. Jin Yu subsequently identified the Upper Three Sects and Bibi Dong as additional threats, revealed Bibi Dong’s Rakshasa succession, and proposed importing future Soul Tool technology. His warnings helped prompt Qian Daoliu to remove Bibi Dong from the papacy 9 11 12 14.

Becoming Holy Son

Qian Daoliu announced Jin Yu’s appointment as Holy Son, but Hu Liena, Xie Yue, and Yan challenged his qualifications. Jin Yu accepted a contest in which any defeat would cost him the position 13 14 17.

During preparations, he sparred with Qian Renxue, withstood her Sacred Sword, and impressed the seven Enshrined with his close-combat skill. He then spent two months training under them and studying the Crocodile Emperor Art 14 15 17.

In the deciding contest, Hu Liena’s Charm failed to affect him. He defeated her, then overwhelmed Xie Yue and Yan together with his defense, fire immunity, and fourth Soul Skill. Qian Daoliu formally confirmed him as Holy Son, and Spirit Hall’s titled elders saluted him 18 19.

Expedition to the Later Era

Jin Yu brought Spirit Hall’s representatives into his original era and dispersed five hundred Soul Masters among the continent’s factions to study Soul Tool technology and establish an intelligence network. He proposed exploiting the Body Sect’s coming attack on Mingde Hall to seize research rather than immediately founding a new faction 19 20.

While traveling toward Mingdu, he and Qian Renxue rescued Ye Guyi from Evil Soul Masters. Recognizing the later era’s surviving Angel Clan connection, Jin Yu also raised the possibility of recovering that timeline’s Qian Renxue’s divine weapon and inherited Soul Bones 21 22.

After the Body Sect captured Guang Ling, Jin Yu accompanied the rescue party. The resulting settlement secured Soul Core instruction and cultivation resources. He also warned Du Busi that the coming Sun Moon invasion would kill him and Long Aotian and nearly destroy their sect 24 28.

Jin Yu later realized that the Body Sect’s restricted core area remained unsearched. This led Qian Daoliu to the buried remains of the later timeline’s Qian Renxue, the Angel Holy Sword, and six inheritance Soul Bones 31 32.

Over the following year, Jin Yu continued cultivating and helped secure Ghost Douluo and Chrysanthemum Douluo’s loyalty to Spirit Hall. By his scheduled battle with Long Aotian, he had reached level 49 but remained just short of completing the Crocodile Emperor Art’s second level 34.

Appearance

• His facial features notably resemble Golden Crocodile Douluo’s, helping the Worship Hall guards recognize a possible family connection 2.
• When using Golden Crocodile Scale Armor, his entire body is covered in thick golden crocodile scales 15.

Personality

Jin Yu is fiercely protective of his ancestry and rejects the portrayal of Spirit Hall as inherently evil. He considers its historical reputation a product of its defeat and believes continental unification under Spirit Hall could have prevented later warfare and the proliferation of Evil Soul Masters 1 3.

His confidence is backed by sustained preparation. Although openly provocative toward opponents, he accepts warnings about unusual Soul Skills and trains persistently after repeated failures. He also recognizes when his strength is insufficient: he sets Soul Saint as his tournament goal and acknowledges the danger of facing Long Aotian without his second-level technique 9 14 16 34.

He reciprocates the Enshrined’s affection and resolves to prevent their original deaths. With Qian Renxue, his teasing gives way to emotional support when he finds her grieving over her family’s history 11 16 17.

A light-attribute, top-tier Beast Martial Soul with exceptional offensive power and defense. Jin Yu follows the Power Attack System while retaining a dedicated defensive Soul Skill 5 10.
