Background / History

The Wang Clan is a local martial family based in Changyun County on Hanshan Dao. Its ordinary relatives depend on clan support, while its main branches hold greater status, wealth, and access to training resources 1 2.

Under Wang Hezheng, the clan rose from Black Fort to the county town. His Energy Refining Realm breakthrough and an earlier favor from a Dragon Transformation Sect disciple enabled the clan to gain control of local mines and farmland, establishing its position among Changyun County’s major powers 28.

The clan later assisted the Dragon Transformation Sect in establishing the Refining Essence into Qi Great Formation throughout Changyun County. Wang Clan disciples buried inscribed stone slabs across the city, and the clan assumed daily supervision of the activated formation 33 36 38. In return for sect benefits, Wang Hezheng formally committed the clan to answering sect orders without refusal 37.

Following Wang Hezheng’s Grandmaster breakthrough, the River Gang, government officials, martial arts halls, and other local forces accepted Wang Clan command during the operation against Zhao Baihe 53. As conflict involving influential families and the Zhao Kingdom threatened Yunzhou, most clan members prepared to relocate to Dragon Transformation Prefecture City, while a smaller group remained in Changyun County to maintain the formation and local businesses 110 117.

Organization and Membership

• Five branches — The clan is led alongside the heads of its five branches; branch interests can differ sharply on major decisions 38.
• Main family — Privileged descendants receive separate arrangements and are generally better built and better resourced than collateral members 1 4.
• Collateral branches — Clan relatives of lower standing who rely on limited subsidies and may be assigned to dangerous or logistical work 1 17 18.
• Outer disciples — Recruits from outside the clan, often from laboring backgrounds. Those who pass the Martial Academy assessment may be recognized as members of the Wang Clan 2 20.
• Clan leadership — Wang Hezheng serves as Clan Leader; Wang Hu oversees much of the younger generation’s martial training, while Wang Shuo acts as a respected elder and assessor 1 20 21.

Martial Education

The clan requires male direct and collateral descendants aged sixteen and above to attend martial training and assessment. Training includes the clan’s foundational Harmonious Flow Fist, breathing method, and footwork 1 2.

The complete Harmonious Flow Fist manual is one of the clan’s core inheritances, refined through generations of Wang Clan martial artists. It contains the complete fist technique, breathing method, footwork, and an incomplete energy-condensation method 24.

The Martial Academy assessment evaluates disciples’ mastery of Harmonious Flow Fist and selects qualifying members for further training. The clan publicly presents this route as an opportunity regardless of origin, though family influence and private resources remain significant within its hierarchy 20 21.

Formation and Sect Service

Refining Essence into Qi Great Formation

The Wang Clan buried symbol-inscribed stone slabs throughout Changyun County on Dragon Transformation Sect orders. Once activated, the formation drew free-floating essence into a network over the city and directed its gathered energy toward the sect and the Wang Clan 33 36.

• The formation was stated to draw wandering essence rather than the essence of living people at the time of activation 36 38.
• Wang Hezheng initially feared the formation could harm Changyun’s population, citing stories connected to the Zhao Kingdom 33 36.
• The Dragon Transformation Sect transferred daily supervisory control to the Wang Clan through a token, binding the clan more closely to the sect 37.
• The clan’s control of the formation also became a reason that some members had to remain in Changyun County when the wider family relocated 117.

Forging and Pill Refining Initiative

At Zhu Chaoying’s direction, the Wang Clan agreed to provide iron ore, coal, medicinal herbs, lodging, food, and allowances for apprentices learning weapon forging and pill refining 38.

• Liu Haibing was assigned to teach forging.
• Fu Shuangyun was assigned to teach pill refining.
• The clan recruited apprentices from Changyun County and cleared residential space to house them 38 39.
• The initiative was intended to create in-house craftsmen, though it also expanded Zhu Chaoying’s Workfire Peak influence outside the sect 38.
