Background / History

In the 1466 account, the young Otto entered his family’s sacred hall and touched the Void Archives in hopes of reviving Kallen Kaslana’s father. The white-haired woman within told him that she could not revive the dead; the artifact continued waiting for someone who understood music. 35

Five centuries later, Otto had prolonged his existence through Soul Steel bodies and built Schicksal into a global anti-Destruction organization. His overriding goal remained Kallen’s resurrection, and he was willing to accept any evil or personal cost in pursuit of it. 51 52

Otto contacted Ye Chang'an after recognizing a familiar melody in laboratory recordings and suspecting a connection to Chang'an of Tai Xu Mountain. The Void Archives’ inner projection told him that Ye Chang'an had once resurrected an entire civilization, convincing Otto that Kallen could be restored as well. He then placed both himself and Schicksal at Ye Chang'an’s disposal in exchange for guidance toward resurrection. 51 52

As Ye Chang'an’s ally, Otto helped stabilize Starlight City, redirected Schicksal’s resources toward fighting Destruction, arranged lunar exploration, and developed the Moonlight Throne Project. He also used Cecilia as Ye Chang'an’s liaison while quietly encouraging her feelings for him, believing their relationship would help keep Ye Chang'an invested in the world. 53 58 59

When Ye Chang'an was apparently killed by Chi Yuan, Otto broadcast the news to Valkyries worldwide and framed Chi Yuan for the death. The resulting grief and rage caused many Valkyries to fall to Destruction or become Pseudo-Arbiters. Otto then protected Chi Yuan from the attackers, intending to use the crisis to create additional combat power while waiting for Ye Chang'an’s expected revival. 68 69 70

Ye Chang'an ultimately allowed Otto to witness Kallen shortly before her death in a misplaced space-time, then transferred Kallen’s soul at the moment of her death. After Kallen revived, Otto accepted her wish to discard their old engagement and gave her his blessings, prioritizing her freedom over his own desires. 88 89 91

Otto became the Arbiter of Binding shortly before the final trial. During the battle against Finality, he commanded the restraint force on the far side of the moon and coordinated ninety-nine Restraint Barriers to counter Finality’s power-neutralization Authority. 93 95 97

After humanity passed the Finality trial, Otto reorganized its armed forces and established the Schicksal Theocracy to preserve Schicksal’s influence. He later developed the theory of the “Tree of Existence,” assisted efforts to restore Ye Chang'an through recovered memories, and proposed using the Hyperion for travel across worlds. 100 103 109

Despite this ruthlessness, Otto is pragmatic rather than aimlessly destructive. Once Ye Chang'an offers a credible route to Kallen’s resurrection, Otto channels Schicksal’s resources into anti-Destruction work and follows orders with unusual obedience. 52 58
