Background / History

Ye Chang'an is a transmigrator raised on Tai Xu Mountain by Lin Zhaoyu after she killed his birth parents. His adult mindset initially makes cultivation of Tai Xu Sword Qi and the Sword Heart Art unusually difficult. He later becomes bound to a simulator system that rewards altered destinies with further simulation attempts. 1 2

His first major simulation places him in the Previous Civilization, where he meets Eden as a child through music. He studies instruments, wins competitions to support his poor family, and eventually becomes Eden's musical partner and fiancé. Together they form Sleepless Chang'an; Ye Chang'an performs under the name “Chang'an” and becomes internationally famous. 3 9 20

During that simulation, his Chang'an Melody develops into a means of handling Destruction energy. He ultimately becomes the Arbiter of Sound Reason, destroys the old world, and creates a new one that persists even after the Cocoon of the End restarts human civilization. He awakens twenty-four years in his past, deeply changed by the experience. 31 33

His later simulations repeatedly place him alongside people fated for tragedy, including Sirin, Chi Yuan, the Tai Xu lineage, and the figures of the Previous Civilization. His central aim becomes changing those fates while finding a path back to Eden. 34 43 120

Appearance

Ye Chang'an is repeatedly noted for an unusually striking, sunny presence that makes him stand out even in a crowd. During his early life he has black hair and black eyes; prolonged Destruction adaptation later turns his hair white and his eyes blue. 4 112

Personality

Music is Ye Chang'an's defining purpose. When Chi Yuan asks for his true heart, he answers simply: “Music.” He values music not only as art, but as a way to comfort people, share power, preserve memories, and connect those separated by time or death. 40 42 103

Before his first completed simulation, he is described by Su Mei as a mischievous and impolite child who often refused to admit fault. Returning from the simulation makes him markedly more reserved, polite, introspective, and distant from the people he grew up with. 33 37

He is compassionate toward people suffering under Destruction, particularly children such as Sirin and Qin Suy, yet can be calculating when dealing with powerful figures such as Otto. He is also stubborn: he repeatedly refuses to abandon his pursuit of Eden, his musical ideals, or his belief that people should be allowed to wield power freely. 44 51 71
