Background / History
Pain appeared at the Five Kage summit as an expendable clone, calmly outlining Akatsuki's plan to revive the Ten-Tails, use it as a weapon against foreign enemies, and impose peace through fear and shared suffering. The assembled Kage destroyed the clone, but Hyuga Kei identified it as a decoy rather than Pain's main body. 120
During the operation against Utakata, Deva Path Pain confronted the Twilight Squad while Hyuga Kei intercepted the fleeing jinchūriki. Pain overwhelmed the defenders, summoned the remaining five Paths when their resistance persisted, and departed with Hyuga Kei after the Six-Tails was extracted. 150
Before Akatsuki's final assault on Konoha, Deva Path Pain led the other five Paths alongside Hyuga Kei. Allied shinobi had received intelligence on the Six Paths' abilities and prepared specialized countermeasures, including an attack rhythm intended to exploit the Heavenly Path's five-second interval between uses of Shinra Tensei. 169 171
In the ensuing war, the Paths were separated and several were defeated, but Deva Path Pain continued to contest Kage-level opponents. He used Chibaku Tensei during the battle, later blocked Tsunade from intervening in Hyuga Kei's fight with Might Guy, and fought alongside the other Paths against Jiraiya, Gaara, Ōnoki, and Mei Terumī. 171 172 176
Naruto ultimately entered the battle against the Six Paths in Sage Mode and repelled them. He later reached the weakened Nagato, who chose atonement and used the Outer Path — Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique to revive the dead. 178
Personality
Deva Path Pain is consistently cold, detached, and dismissive of opposition. He views overwhelming force as the necessary means to end conflict, arguing that only fear of the Ten-Tails and the suffering of war can create lasting peace. 120 150
He shows little interest in negotiation once opponents resist. Against the Twilight Squad, he treated their efforts as futile and relied on superior power rather than discussion. 150
