Background / History
Akihara was originally an Earth-born wage worker who accepted an interview invitation from an unknown company and awoke in another world as the ten-year-old Akihara Kagura. He became one of Orochimaru's adopted orphans, serving in an experimental base as both a cleaner and expendable human test subject. 2
Kagura activated the Appreciation System for Diligent Work, which rewards him for carrying out tasks assigned by a chosen superior. As a newcomer, he could initially select only Orochimaru, whose welcome package granted Kagura Ninja Science and enabled him to survive Hashirama Cell transplantation. 2
Orochimaru sent Kagura to Konoha to learn Wood Release and monitor Orochimaru's alliance with Danzō Shimura. Danzō later established a cover history identifying Kagura as a Konoha orphan adopted by Yakushi Nonō and personally claimed responsibility for his Hashirama Cell transplant. 2 16
Kagura's connection to the Konoha Orphanage remained central to his actions. Kabuto Yakushi and Nonō had believed Kagura dead after his disappearance, while Kagura remembered them and resented being forgotten. He ultimately intervened to save both from Danzō's attempted manipulation and assassination plot. 98 103 105
Appearance
Kagura is initially presented as a ten-year-old boy. In his ordinary appearance, he has black hair and can pass as an innocuous young master while traveling with Karin. 2 350
- After consuming the Chakra Fruit, his hair becomes long and snow-white, while his eyes settle into scarlet Nine-Tomoe Rinne Sharingan. 343
- In that transformed state, he manifests a moon-like black Truth-Seeking Ball behind his head and emits enough chakra to freeze a crashing wave in place. 343
- He can assume a gigantic Golden Buddha form. 445 446
Personality
Kagura views hierarchy through the language of employment: superiors issue work, subordinates should receive something in return, and a superior who only takes without giving is inadequate. This outlook drives his constant search for useful superiors and his willingness to exploit competing loyalties. 2 240
He deliberately presents himself as extreme—frequently offering to kill obstacles to please Danzō—while insisting that these threats are often empty posturing. Nevertheless, he is capable of ruthless violence, including killing an entire Grass Ninja reinforcement unit, and regularly uses fear, deception, and political manipulation to secure his goals. 16 92 240
Kagura is fiercely protective of people he considers his own, particularly Yakushi Nonō, Kabuto, Karin, and Konoha's younger ninja. His protection often takes excessive forms, such as eliminating Tsunade's creditors without her approval or proposing mass violence against political opposition. 105 191 225 226
He considers all of these facets genuine:
“I'm the one who likes to kill, I'm the one who likes to save people, I'm the one who likes to fish.” 91
