Background / History
Tang San grew up in Holy Soul Village alongside Ning Qiu. He rose before dawn to climb Sunrise Peak, publicly claiming to watch the sunrise while secretly cultivating Tang Sect techniques. Ning Qiu was the only villager aware of this routine. 1
At his Martial Soul awakening, Tang San manifested Blue Silver Grass and tested as having Innate Full Soul Power. Su Yuntao dismissed the grass as useless, unaware that Tang San had also awakened the Clear Sky Hammer in his left hand; Tang San deliberately hid it. 2 4
Old Jack recognized Tang San as Holy Soul Village's best prospect in years and resolved to persuade Tang Hao to let him attend Notting City's Junior Soul Master Academy. Tang San later trained under Tang Hao's arrangements, entered Slaughter City, studied at Moon Pavilion, and went to the Clear Sky Sect. 4 176
The Clear Sky Sect set three conditions for acknowledging his ancestry: reach Soul Douluo level within ten years, bring back the head of a Spirit Hall Titled Douluo, and obtain a 100,000-year Soul Ring as his eighth ring. The final condition led Tang San to contemplate Zhu Er's potential sacrifice as a “win-win solution.” 176
Appearance
After his Martial Soul's second awakening, Tang San is described as tall and broad-shouldered, with deep eyes, water-blue hair reaching his feet, and a luxurious blue robe. 176
- Originally had black hair before it became blue following his transformation. 181
- His hair turned completely white amid rage and emotional turmoil after Zhu Er severed ties with him and Ning Qiu rejected his application to Holy Soul Village. 181
- Uses the changed appearance and the alias “Tang Yin” when dealing with Spirit Hall. 177
Personality
Tang San is secretive and highly protective of his advantages. He concealed the Clear Sky Hammer at his awakening, withheld Tang Sect arts from Ning Qiu, and pursued rare resources such as the Hair Crystal with persistent offers. 2 3 36
He is intensely competitive and places great importance on proving himself and gaining recognition from the Clear Sky Sect. His inability to accept failure or perceived disgrace is emphasized after his plans concerning Zhu Er collapse. 176 180 181
His relationship with Zhu Er exposes the conflict between his stated affection and his ambitions. He publicly defended her against Spirit Hall, yet deliberately led pursuers toward them and later could not refute her accusation that he had considered her Soul Ring and Soul Bone in pursuit of Clear Sky Sect recognition. 141 177 179 180
