Background / History

Experiments on Earth

In the distant past, the Kree visited Earth as part of a wider program of biological modification across multiple planets. Their empire was engaged in continual warfare and sought to replenish casualties by engineering superpowered soldiers through genetic manipulation. Earth became one of their testing grounds. 50

The experiments created the genetic basis for the Inhumans. After internal Kree conflicts forced the project’s termination and their withdrawal from Earth, the altered genes remained recessive among human descendants. Terrigen Crystals—native to the Kree homeworld—could activate those genes and grant abilities. 50

The Kree also created Hive as an Inhuman ruler able to compel other Inhumans into submission, allowing him to govern the population on their behalf. Once the Kree departed, Hive continued his rule until Inhumans and humans united to exile him to another planet. 68

Supreme Intelligence

The Kree Empire is ruled by the Supreme Intelligence, a living supercomputer created by the Kree. It embodies the accumulated wisdom of Kree history and governs every aspect of their civilization. 560 588

The empire’s military leadership ultimately answers to the Supreme Intelligence. After Ronan the Accuser’s death, Oz became the strongest member of the Accuser Corps and was later selected to lead a new vanguard against Earth. 559 560

Appearance

Kree are commonly depicted with blue skin, particularly among soldiers and officers deployed against Earth. However, their appearance is not uniform; the officer Mac-Chall is described as light-skinned and closer in complexion to a human. 58 108 559

  • Blue-skinned warriors have been deployed in black armor during the New York invasion. 108
  • Later Kree ground forces wore silver-white armor and were protected by Kree crystal energy. 568
  • Kree soldiers employ energy guns alongside Kree-alloy blades and axes in close combat. 108

Society and Military Doctrine

Aspect Details
Imperial scale The Kree Empire was described as spanning ten galaxies. 50
Warfare The Kree have a history of constant interstellar war, invasion, and expansion. 50 574
Command structure The Supreme Intelligence exercises ultimate authority over the empire and its military. 560 588
Combat priority Kree doctrine emphasizes warship performance and heavy fleet firepower over individual combat prowess. 587
Invasion protocol During the first Earth invasion, Kree forces gave the planet’s ruling authority ten minutes to surrender before beginning full-scale destruction. 108
Individual elites Exceptional figures such as Ronan are rare; his Omni-Weapon represented the pinnacle of Kree personal armament. 587

Technology and Armaments

Terrigen and Kree Crystal Energy

Terrigen Crystals are powerful Kree-native energy crystals that activate the engineered genes left in humans, producing Inhumans. 50

  • Kree crystal energy is used to power protective barriers and combat armor. 568 570
  • Kree particle shields can be disrupted by matching their energy frequency with a pulse shockwave. 570
  • The Black Knight’s use of Terrigen-based energy was recognizable to Mar-Vell as similar to Kree crystal energy. 102

Vanguard Sentries

Kree Vanguard Robots are elite combat-and-reconnaissance machines deployed to assess worlds selected for invasion. They gather information on terrain, climate, technological level, and military strength. 99

  • Equipped with destructive energy weaponry and durable armor. 100
  • Carry a Kree Bomb in the chest; its detonation can flatten seven or eight cities. 99
  • A sentry under Ronan’s command will continue eliminating threats unless Ronan issues a stop order. 101

Warships and Fleet Weapons

Kree fleets rely on large warships, fighter craft, heavy cannons, energy shielding, and space-warp engines. 567 577

  • A Kree mothership’s main cannon can destroy a satellite with a single shot. 567
  • Kree warships employ particle shields powered by Kree crystal energy. 570
  • Kree and Skrull shuttles can enter subspace through space-warp engines, allowing travel from Earth to the Sun in under an hour. 577
  • Kree quantum transmission technology can establish channels between warships for boarding teams to seize enemy vessels from within. 317

Specialized Infiltration

Kree stealth warriors are assassination and sabotage specialists capable of complete visual concealment and tracker interference. 577

  • Their invisibility can be exposed through ultraviolet frequencies. 577
  • Infiltrators attacked the Sky Sword Mothership to delay Earth’s forces while the Kree constructed a wormhole near the Sun. 577 581
  • Kree operatives also teleported a Sentinel robot aboard the mothership; its energy core functioned as a super bomb. 580

Advanced Weapons

  • Kree alloy weapons — durable melee weapons used by Kree warriors; one Kree battle axe resisted a magic sword strike. 58
  • Omni-Weapon — Ronan’s warhammer, capable of shockwaves, energy absorption, gravity control, and force-field generation. 115
  • Obliterator — a powerful defense weapon derived from Romulan technology recovered from an ancient warship. 592
  • Godslayer prototype — a colossal weapon based on the initial form of a Romulan Godslayer; revealed during the confrontation with the Supreme Intelligence. 592

Story Role / Major Arcs

First Invasion of Earth

A Kree warrior first arrived to reclaim Skye/Daisy Johnson, identifying her as a Kree-created humanoid weapon. The Black Knight refused to surrender her and defeated the warrior. 57 58

Ronan’s vanguard sentry subsequently appeared on Earth, signaling an impending invasion. Iron Man, Mar-Vell, and the Black Knight prevented the sentry’s core from detonating. 99 101 103

Ronan’s fleet then attacked New York City, deploying hundreds of craft and blue-skinned ground troops. The Kree demanded Earth’s surrender before launching a broader assault. 108 109

Earth’s defenders repelled the invasion, while the Sky Sword team seized the Kree mothership above New York. The Black Knight defeated and killed Ronan aboard the vessel, which was later converted into Sky Sword’s headquarters. 113 116 118 119

Solar System Offensive

Following Ronan’s defeat, the Supreme Intelligence initiated a renewed plan to seize the Solar System, despite Kree generals warning that Earth, the Black Knight, and Earth’s Skrull alliance posed serious risks. 559 560

The Kree returned with three massive warships and numerous fighter craft, immediately attacking Earth without issuing surrender terms. Their fleet was eventually routed by Sky Sword and Skrull forces; Oz was killed, more than half of the Kree ships were destroyed, and the survivors withdrew. 567 574 587

Wormhole Operation and Homeworld Conflict

During the renewed offensive, the Kree attempted to construct a wormhole near the Sun, intending to use the Solar System as an interstellar hub. Kree infiltrators attacked the Sky Sword Mothership to delay the response. 574 577

After destroying the wormhole’s energy-conductor ships, the Black Knight was believed to have reached Kree territory. He and Wanda later infiltrated the Kree homeworld, bypassing its planetary defense shield and confronting the Supreme Intelligence directly. 587 588 591

Relationships

  • Inhumans — Created through Kree genetic experiments as potential soldiers; Hive was installed as their controllable ruler. 50 68
  • Earth — An ancient Kree testing ground and later target of two major Kree military operations. 50 108 567
  • Mar-Vell — Kree science-division commander who defected to protect Earth from Ronan’s forces. 101 111
  • Ronan the Accuser — Kree military leader whose invasion force attacked Earth; killed by the Black Knight aboard his mothership. 101 116
  • Skrull Empire — Longstanding enemy of the Kree; the Skrulls temporarily allied with Earth against the Kree’s Solar System offensive. 506 615
  • Nova Corps — Interstellar peacekeeping force and frequent opponent of Kree expansionism. 574
  • Romulans — The Kree recovered an ancient Romulan warship and incorporated its weapon knowledge into systems such as the Obliterator. 592
