Background / History

Wind is one of the Storm Riders alongside Cloud. The two are Protagonists of Destiny whose Qi Luck was tied to Lord Conqueror through the Mud Buddha’s Feng Shui formation: if they remained loyal, Lord Conqueror would become the Son of Qi Luck. Their status makes them extraordinarily difficult to kill, as accidents and reversals repeatedly turn hostile circumstances in their favor. 435

He inherited the Nie family’s Qilin Bloodrage, an abnormal vitality that rapidly heals injuries and can erupt under extreme pressure. His father, Nie Renwang, was believed by Wind to have been dragged into Lingyun Grotto by the Fire Qilin; Wind later reflected on this history at the Leshan Giant Buddha. 459 480 516

Before his descent into demonic cultivation, Wind possessed the Snow Drinking Saber, Six Frost Arts, Blood Bodhi, and the Ice Heart Sutra. The sutra can suppress demonic nature, but his grasp of it was initially too shallow to prevent his loss of control. 437 441

Fearing that he would become an indiscriminate killer, Wind resolved to kill Lord Godless before his demonic nature consumed him completely, then take his own life. Instead, his demonic power escalated during the battle: he slaughtered World Extermination Shrine disciples, killed Lord Godsky, defeated Lord Godless, and continued killing after the shrine’s collapse. 441 456 459 460 461

Cloud, Nameless, and Qin Shuang attempted to stop him rather than abandon him. Cloud ultimately broke through Wind’s defenses with the Peerless Sword and neutralized his Demonic Qi, but Emperor Shitian later used a flute to seize control of Wind and drive him into another killing spree. 468 470 471

Wang Ming eventually located Wind through a hidden restriction placed in the martial arts he had taught him. Wang Ming crippled Wind, absorbed most of his power, and later completely dispelled his Demonic Qi. Wind considered leaving the martial world afterward, but remained with the Underworld Society after learning that his family could be endangered and that Second Dream was alive. 472 480

Appearance

Wind is described as gentle and jade-like in ordinary circumstances, an appearance that can conceal his direct, power-oriented fighting style. 1320 1326

  • Normally carries himself with a warm, mild manner. 498
  • Wields the Snow Drinking Saber. 437
  • In a demonic state, his eyes shine scarlet or become strange and inhuman. 457 460
  • His body may be surrounded by gray, grayish-brown, blackish-red, or blade-like Demonic Qi. 459 466
  • Demonic cultivation leaves his body cracked and bleeding, though Qilin Bloodrage rapidly restores him. 466 467

Personality

In his normal state, Wind is kind, gentle, tolerant, and reluctant to kill. He is deeply disturbed by the innocent lives lost during his demonic rampages, and his fear of repeating those acts causes him to avoid cultivating his Demonic Heart even when doing so slows his progress. 458 512 2180

He often wishes to withdraw from conflict and live in seclusion. However, concern for his family, friends, and loved ones repeatedly draws him back into the martial world. 480 494

In combat, Wind is fundamentally a strength-oriented fighter. He prefers overwhelming an opponent through speed, momentum, Qilin Bloodrage, and escalating Demonic Saber power rather than through Cloud’s more technical style. Despite his gentle appearance, he can be deceptive in battle, including deliberately calling out misleading move names. 498 504 1326

Abilities & Skills

Qilin Bloodrage

The inherited Nie family bloodline gives Wind extraordinary vitality and enables explosive surges of power when he is injured or driven into a corner.

  • Rapidly heals wounds sustained from his own Demonic Saber techniques. 459 466
  • Lets him survive injuries that would normally destroy a demonic cultivator. 467
  • Causes the Fire Qilin to refrain from attacking him. 514
  • Can multiply his strength during battle. 1326

Evil Emperor Demonic Saber

A nine-move, psychocentric demonic saber art created by the First Evil Emperor. Its power comes from the user’s Demonic Heart, and each move further deepens the user’s descent into the Demonic Path. 504

  • Converts self-inflicted harm into greater combat power. 457
  • Grants powerful saber Qi and allows Wind to fight as though he himself were a Demonic Saber. 460 466
  • Can erase reason and emotion, leaving only killing intent. 504
  • Its major documented moves include Demonic Path Rampage and Demonic Extremity: Slaughtering Emotions. 504
  • Without control, it turns Wind into an indiscriminate killer and leaves him horrified by his actions afterward. 512

Demonic Heart Crossing

A later method of controlling the Demonic Saber without losing all emotional awareness.

  • Allowed Wind to retain emotional awareness while in a demonic state after years of cultivation. 560
  • Reduced his hesitation and enabled him to use Demonic Saber techniques in battle more deliberately. 560
  • Eventually became insufficient as his cultivation advanced into the Great Luo Realm. 2180

Hegemon Under Heaven

A Demonic Path art whose power is drawn from external evil influences rather than the user’s heart.

  • Absorbs evil energy, yin energy, death energy, baleful energy, killing intent, and similar forces from the environment. 504
  • Increased Wind’s killing intent and pushed him further into the Demonic Path. 455 459
  • Combined with the Demonic Saber and Qilin Bloodrage to create his most destructive early demonic state. 459

Wind God Leg

Wind’s signature leg technique, renowned for speed.

  • Its final move was withheld by Lord Conqueror before being taught to Wind later. 494
  • Wind worked to integrate the explosive-speed method of Illusion Sword into the technique. 498
  • Forms the basis for Wind God’s Wrath, his compatible move from Four Symbols of Heaven’s Will. 550
  • Can be combined with saber techniques in high-speed barrages. 1326

On Par Divine Skill

A causality-based curse activated by declaring that an opponent’s martial arts are “no less than” Wind’s.

  • Pulls the cursed target’s strength down toward Wind’s level. 466
  • Has hindered or weakened figures including Broken Wave, Divine General, and Heart Severance. 466
  • Wind often blurts out the triggering phrase instinctively in battle, despite trying to control this habit. 2179 2180
  • His repeated use of the curse earned him a reputation as an invincible God of Misfortune. 1329

Ice Heart Sutra

A mental method specialized in suppressing demonic nature.

  • Has limited value for ordinary cultivation but is highly effective against demonic influence. 441
  • Wind repeatedly recited it while struggling against the Demonic Saber, though it initially could not fully suppress his condition. 441 455

Illusion Sword

A weapon-neutral technique based on calculating sunlight, shadows, and explosive speed.

  • Can refract strong light to briefly blind an enemy before a rapid finishing strike. 498
  • Can exploit shadows and blind spots to create an invisibility-like ambush. 498
  • Wind primarily trains its speed method for integration with Wind God Leg. 498

Ten Styles Martial Arts / Tenfold Invincibility

Wind retrieved Invincible Warrior’s Ten Styles Martial Arts from Lingyun Grotto and demonstrated them to Wang Ming. 519

  • The ten styles cover saber, spear, sword, halberd, staff, fist, palm, leg, claw, and finger techniques. 519
  • Tenfold Invincibility integrates these principles into a multi-directional assault. 519 569
  • Wind used Tenfold Invincibility to create ten afterimages and pressure Jian Yue with varied attacks. 569

Four Symbols of Heaven’s Will

A joint Storm Riders technique that borrows power from heaven and earth.

  • Wind’s compatible move is Wind God’s Wrath. 550
  • Produces a massive Wind God phantom that provides external energy for battle. 550
  • Doubled his effective output from roughly three hundred to six hundred years of cultivation. 550

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Snow Drinking Saber — Wind’s divine saber and primary weapon; freezes blood and wounds on contact during his demonic state. 437 459 460
  • Fire Qilin — A divine beast that does not attack Wind due to his Qilin Bloodrage; Wind later returned riding it. 514 519
  • Dragon Vein — Temporarily held while attempting to suppress his Demonic Qi, though it proved insufficient. 470
  • Well Eight Methods Saber Manual — Given by Wang Ming when Wind’s fear of the Demonic Heart caused his cultivation to stagnate. 512

Relationships

  • Cloud — Fellow Storm Rider and sworn brother-in-arms. Cloud repeatedly risked his life to save Wind from demonization rather than kill him. 441 465 468
  • Qin Shuang — Senior brother who worries for Wind and repeatedly intervenes to save him, including using the Dragon Vein as a possible cure. 461 467 470
  • Nameless — Ally and mentor figure who joined Cloud in confronting Wind for the sake of both Wind and the common people. 461 465
  • Wang Ming / Lord Conqueror — Master. Wang Ming taught Wind advanced martial arts, removed his Demonic Qi, and later relied on him to retrieve the Ten Styles Martial Arts; he also exploited hidden restrictions in Wind’s techniques to drain most of Wind’s power during a crisis. 472 480 494 519
  • Yan Ying — Mother. Her voice was one of the few things capable of interrupting Wind’s demonic killing intent. 457
  • Nie Renwang — Father, believed by Wind to have been taken into Lingyun Grotto by the Fire Qilin. 480 516
  • Second Dream — Wind’s wife. Their reunion relieved Wind’s insecurity and reaffirmed their affection for one another. 480 512
  • You Ruo — A woman devoted to Wind who regularly stayed by his side during his recovery and training; Wang Ming approved Wind’s request to marry her. 478 498 519
  • Dugu Meng and Ming Yue — Women who died for Wind. He later asked Wang Ming to revive them. 519 520
  • Po Jun — Hostile figure associated with Yan Ying who fought Wind and provoked another major Demonic Saber rampage. 457 503 504

Underworld Society

Following Wang Ming’s removal of his Demonic Qi, Wind became one of the Underworld Society’s core disciples. He received the final move of Wind God Leg and Illusion Sword, trained to avoid relying on the Demonic Saber, and remained with the organization to protect those close to him. 480 494 498

In the Investiture of the Gods conflict, Wind and Cloud were identified as Children of the World carrying eighty percent of the Storm Riders world’s origin power. Wind defeated Yang Jian and killed several immortals while using his curse and deceptive saber tactics. 1320 1326
