Background / History

Lin Fengjiao is the sole remaining descendant of the Lin family. His grandfather was the elder brother of Lin Junmen, the chief elder of Maoshan’s Talisman Hall. Although this family connection was close, Lin Fengjiao’s exceptional talent was the reason several halls initially sought to accept him; they withdrew because of his relationship to Lin Junmen. 8

He entered Maoshan at sixteen and became Lin Junmen’s personal disciple in the Talisman Hall. By the time Zhong Bai came to study talisman arts, Lin Fengjiao had spent five years in the sect and had grown into an upright young man. 8 9

Lin Fengjiao established the Abandoned Inn in Ren Family Town as his base after descending the mountain. He accepted Wencai as a named disciple and later took Qiusheng as a disciple, while handling supernatural disturbances across the region. 56 91

He eventually married Auntie Zhe, and they had a daughter, Lin Qing'er. After a Gu Tribe elder abducted and injured him in retaliation for Granny Wang’s death, Zhong Bai rescued him; Lin Fengjiao recovered and returned to his family in Ren Family Town. 143 159 162 165

Appearance

Lin Fengjiao is described as an upright young man with a normally serious, wooden-faced demeanor. His Daoist title, One-Brow, reflects his especially prominent eyebrows. 8 9

  • Thick, straight horizontal eyebrows. 9
  • Usually wears a neatly arranged Taoist robe. 145
  • Maintains a grave, composed bearing in dangerous situations. 62 160

Personality

Lin Fengjiao is disciplined, restrained, and conscientious. He is reluctant to let personal pride dictate his actions: during the Maoshan Grand Competition, he refused Shi Jian’s provocation and focused instead on securing the chance to descend the mountain and eliminate evil. 17

He is serious about talisman arts and dislikes those who dismiss the discipline. His initial test of Zhong Bai was meant to show that talismans could be decisive in critical moments, not to humiliate him. 9

As a mentor, Lin Fengjiao is protective and demanding. He openly defended Wencai when Shi Jian belittled the boy, prepares his disciples for danger, and urges Qiusheng and Wencai not to be overambitious beyond their abilities. 58 137

His righteous principles extend to ordinary people. He repeatedly warned the Ren family of Old Master Ren’s impending Corpse Transformation despite their disbelief, organized Silent Village’s defense against bandits, and refused to overlook Granny Wang’s bloodlust and crimes. 136 153
