History

Origin

According to its background, Nuwa molded humanity from yellow mud in her own likeness. Remaining fragments were later refined into a temple statue; after an unknown span of time, the statue came alive, worshipped at Nuwa’s side, and was named Yang He 179.

Its earlier Living Buddha identity had endured years of fire-ritual baptisms at Five Lights Temple. Through two family mystical methods, it gained Nuwa’s favor and became an attendant awaiting Nuwa Palace’s completion 58.

Creation as a permanent character

Within Nuwa Palace, the Living Buddha entered an undecorated hall containing Nuwa’s enormous statue and thrones representing her disciples. It fell into one throne and merged with it, completing the “Ghost in the Stone” lore and generating the permanent character Immaculate Buddha 88.

In Incense Town, temple priests recognized Yang He as the Immaculate Buddha, one of Nuwa’s disciples. The town’s Immaculate Buddha statue had become a malevolent spirit after the Nuwa festival calamity, and Yang He entered its body to find Sanskrit inscribed upon its heart 183 184.

Fusion with the Ghost Prince

Yang He sacrificed his left arm to the Immaculate Buddha statue, allowing its Sanskrit to absorb yin qi and hasten the creation of a Dana Ghost. The Dana Ghost served as a medium for the Buddhist Selfless Life Sutra 185.

After cultivating the sutra and performing Spiritual Burial, Yang He merged the Immaculate Buddha with the Ghost Prince. The result was the Immaculate Ghost Buddha, which preserved the Ghost Prince’s origins and capabilities while altering the Buddhist Daoist lineage 186.

Buddha fruit position

The Buddha fruit position was refined from the Western Two Sages’ bone-and-blood essence and the innate qi of the Twenty-Four Heavens. It had already nurtured a flawed Ancient Buddha Rādharana position; refining it promised a path toward replacing Ancient Buddha Rādharana 392.

Yang He used Immaculate Ghost Buddha heads to hasten the fruit position’s birth, seized it before Daoist Rādharana, and refined it into a new internal small world. The process drew hostile attention from an unknown entity 393 396.

Shakyamuni’s enlightenment

While Shakyamuni’s corpse awaited enlightenment at Leiyin Temple, the Immaculate Ghost Buddha absorbed manifestations and completed its ten-headed, twenty-armed form. Its cyan-gold skin bore Sanskrit tattoos, while seven Buddha-light wheels extended from its spine 421.

Yang He established a sworn-brother connection with Shakyamuni beneath the Bodhi Tree. After Shakyamuni’s enlightenment, Shakyamuni addressed him as “Junior Brother,” treating them as twin siblings 421 426. This kinship later became explicit: Yang He was revealed as Shakyamuni’s twin brother and a Sage 540.

Later transformation

The Immaculate Buddha became a highly coveted existence in the Pure Land. It was imprisoned there and could only descend through a divine statue in the West Ox Continent; Buddhas and Bodhisattvas sought to refine its fruit status 455.

After Yang He fused Zhunti into the Immaculate Ancient Buddha of the South, the character underwent another transformation. It emerged as the First Truth Pure World Dharma King, described as Nuwa’s only offspring and a former Buddhist Seven Sage who founded an independent sect on Spirit Mountain 553 564.

Appearance

The Immaculate Buddha began as a statue made from Nuwa’s remaining yellow-mud fragments before developing into a living Buddhist body 179.

  • Ten heads and twenty arms — Each head bears a different face; each arm forms a mudra 421.
  • Cyan-gold skin — Covered in fine Sanskrit tattoos that flicker in time with its breath 421.
  • Seven wheels of Buddha light — Extend from the spine and suspend behind the heads 421.
  • Sanskrit-inscribed body — Buddhist characters became embedded within its flesh during Buddha fruit refinement 396.
  • Immaculate statue form — Its manifested statue was described as pure white, flawless, solemn, and more Buddha-like than ordinary Buddhas 520.
