Background / History

Wang Quan Yan transmigrated into the Jade Dynasty world and was accepted as Tian Buyi’s disciple at Grand Bamboo Peak a few months before Zhang Xiaofan. His extraordinary early progress—reaching the First Layer of Jade Purity overnight and the Third Layer within half a month—earned him recognition throughout Qingyun Sect as a prodigy. Tian Buyi consequently arranged an engagement between him and Tian Ling’er. 1

For the next five years, he appeared unable to advance beyond the Third Layer. In reality, he diverted his cultivation and magical power into nurturing his innate divine weapon, the Sovereign Sword. This concealment caused Qingyun Sect to regard him as a fallen prodigy. 1

After Tian Ling’er admitted her feelings for Qi Hao, Wang Quan Yan accepted the dissolution of their engagement without attachment. He regarded their future connection as limited to that of senior and junior disciples. 1 5 6

He emerged from Tai Chi Cave with his accumulated cultivation restored to the peak of the Ninth Layer of Jade Purity. His Heaven and Earth One Sword carved a golden mark across the sky and announced his return to the entire sect. 3 5

True Person Dao Xuan later sent him to the Ancestor’s Hall, where he encountered Wan Jianyi. Wang Quan Yan learned Ghost Slaying God from Wan Jianyi, acquired the Dragon Slaying Sword, and came to be recognized as Wan Jianyi’s successor by figures such as Daoist Cangsong. 11 13 15 17

During the Kongsang Mountain expedition, Wang Quan Yan found the first volume of the Heavenly Tome in the Blood Dripping Cave. Its general outline enabled his breakthrough to the Supreme Purity Realm and clarified the principles behind his Sword Control Technique. 71 72

Appearance

Wang Quan Yan is a tall, straight-backed young man with a handsome face, sword-like brows, starry eyes, and long black hair. He is frequently described in flowing green or blue Daoist robes, carrying an imposing yet restrained bearing. 3 10 25 40

  • Deep, calm eyes compared to an ancient well; golden sword intent can flicker within them. 1 5 10
  • His presence is likened to a sheathed divine sword—sharp, dignified, and difficult to approach directly. 10 12
  • Usually carries the Sovereign Sword; later also bears the Dragon Slaying Sword. 15 40

Personality

Wang Quan Yan is decisive and direct about his feelings. He does not conceal affection for Lu Xueqi, nor does he maintain attachments he does not genuinely feel, as shown by his acceptance of the broken engagement with Tian Ling’er. 6 18 19

He remains composed under pressure, including before True Person Dao Xuan, hostile demonic cultivators, and powerful opponents. His confidence in swordsmanship can appear arrogant, but it is consistently supported by his combat ability. 8 11 32 85

Though proud, he respects Tian Buyi and Su Ru as his master and mistress. He also protects companions, gives Lu Xueqi, Zhang Xiaofan, and Zeng Shushu access to his Sword Control Technique, and intervenes when Zhang Xiaofan is mistakenly attacked by Qingyun disciples. 5 77 90
