Background / History

Qingyun Sect is a major Righteous Path sect led by True Person Dao Xuan. Its disciples cultivate the Tai Chi Xuan Qing Dao, a technique created by the sect’s ancestor, True Person Qingye, after Qingye obtained the fifth volume of the Heavenly Tome. 1 24

The sect is organized around seven meridians, whose peak masters participate in sect affairs and the Seven Meridians Martial Arts Tournament. Grand Bamboo Peak, Dragon Head Peak, Small Bamboo Peak, and Tongtian Peak are among the documented peaks. 3 33 40

Five years before the story’s opening, Qingyun Sect accepted Wang Quan Yan into Grand Bamboo Peak. His rapid advancement to the third layer of Jade Purity within half a month broke the sect’s cultivation record and drew a personal visit from Dao Xuan. 1 4

Wang Quan Yan’s later sword strike, which left a sword mark spanning several miles above the sect, alerted the entire cultivation world and led outsiders to suspect that the long-absent Wan Jianyi had returned. 3 4 9

Following Daoist Cangsong’s attempted betrayal, Dao Xuan spared him immediate punishment and tasked him with continuing to infiltrate the Demon Sect as part of a future demon-purge plan. 47

When the four major Demon Sect factions invaded Jade Purity Hall, Qingyun Sect joined Tianyin Temple in open battle.
