Background / History

Tian Ling'er was engaged to Wang Quan Yan, a fellow Grand Bamboo Peak disciple, but she regarded him only as a senior brother. When Wang Quan Yan remained stalled at the Third Layer of Jade Purity, she became infatuated with Qi Hao of Dragon Head Peak, admiring his cultivation, status as chief disciple, and the Cooling Pearl he gave her. She approached Wang Quan Yan to end their engagement. 1 2

Her parents saw her decision as an improper betrayal of the arranged engagement. Tian Buyi was especially enraged by her attachment to Qi Hao and struck her after she defended Qi Hao’s high cultivation and reputation. 2
