History

Decline and rivalry with Star Luo

The Heaven Dou Empire was one of Douluo Continent's two dominant empires, but its national strength had fallen behind that of the Star Luo Empire. Both states sought continental unification, yet Heaven Dou's faster decline, dispersed royal authority, and weaker military performance left it largely on the defensive. Spirit Hall's presence prevented Star Luo from simply overrunning Heaven Dou. 26 38

Its conflict with Star Luo was longstanding. A previous large-scale war caused nearly two hundred thousand combined military casualties and extensive civilian losses; Spirit Hall mediated its conclusion, though Heaven Dou had suffered the greater losses. 26

When Star Luo launched another major offensive, Heaven Dou sent Crown Prince Xue Ye and expeditionary forces to support the Balak Kingdom and its allies. The Lima Plain campaign ended in a retreat and unsuccessful negotiations, preserving the rivalry without resolving it. 31 32 37 39

Royal succession crisis

Emperor Xue Tang's illness coincided with an escalating struggle between his sons, Crown Prince Xue Ye and Second Prince Xue Yu. Xue Yu's rebellion captured most of Heaven Dou City in less than a day, exploiting local troops and Soul Master support, while the Imperial Palace continued to resist. 67 69 70

Xue Yu's revolt was defeated, and Xue Ye ascended the throne following Xue Tang's death. Xue Ye executed regional rebel leaders, promoted loyal supporters, and began a major purge intended to restore imperial authority. 84

Xue Ye's reforms and infiltration

As emperor, Xue Ye sought to revive Heaven Dou by reforming the military, elevating capable commanders, and purging incompetent nobles. These reforms met resistance from the central government, local powers, and the military itself. 102

The Di Family covertly exploited this resistance. Di Hong commanded the Royal Family's soul masters, while Ge Long entered the imperial military under a false Heaven Dou identity to replace loyal generals and place Di Family agents in key positions. 103

By this period, Di Hong's position in Heaven Dou City had become difficult for Xue Ye to counter. His influence extended beyond the Soul Master Corps, while the Silves Kingdom's growing strength made the emperor wary of provoking its royal family. 149 218

Fall of Heaven Dou City

Xue Ye stripped Xue Qinghe of the crown-prince title and named Xue Beng his successor shortly before the final collapse. 227

The Di Family's decades-long preparations came to fruition when the Silvus Army entered Heaven Dou City undetected. Xue Ye died from hidden poison, leaving the empire without a ruler as the Di Family, Silves forces, and Spirit Hall moved against the royal loyalists. 228

The Royal Knights and City Defense Army were purged or forced to surrender. Members of the Heaven Dou Royal Family were hunted down, while Heaven Dou City's Swan Banner was cut down and replaced with the Di Family's Vermilion Bird Banner. 229 230

Ge Long, now the empire's marshal, used his control of the army to impose martial law across the provinces and prevent the remaining imperial forces from organizing a royal rescue. 232

Replacement and restoration

Di Yang annexed the Five Provinces formerly controlled by Heaven Dou and proclaimed the Holy Soul Empire, formally ending Heaven Dou's rule over its former capital. 238 241 242

Xue Beng escaped to the Hagendas Kingdom and proclaimed himself emperor, declaring that the Heaven Dou Empire still existed. His restorationist forces continued to oppose the Holy Soul Empire and later fought the Spirit Hall Empire. 242 263 271

The restoration army suffered severe losses during the war around Lima Plain and Jialing Pass. The Holy Soul Empire's eventual victory unified Douluo Continent. 273 294
