Background / History

Cassifa resides within the hearth of Shaya's Moving Castle. Shaya's inherited destiny includes a contract with Cassifa: Shaya gave up his heart and became Cassifa's master, while gaining immense magical power. 3 4

The contract binds Cassifa to the castle, preventing it from leaving even half a step. It bears the burden of maintaining the castle's magic, concealing its existence, moving it, heating water, and keeping its inhabitants warm. 19 20

When Alicia enters the castle, Cassifa identifies her curse as ancient and powerful. Seeking freedom, it offers to lift the curse if Alicia can break its contract with Shaya, though it cannot disclose the contract's terms because of a confidentiality clause. 19

Cassifa later supports Shaya's decision to relocate the castle after the Wilderness Witch traces Alicia to Eagle's Horn Port. Although alarmed by the danger and by the risks of moving its fragile true form, it agrees that remaining would be worse. 33 42
