Background / History
The Emperor founded the Imperium of Man and is revered by its faithful as the God-Emperor, Master of Mankind, and Omnissiah. His enemies instead call him the Corpse Emperor or False Emperor. His defining concern is humanity as a whole rather than any individual human life. 2
Before ascending to the Golden Throne, he entrusted a vial of his primordial blood through Imperial Regent Marshal Constantin Valdor. The relic is described as a final command issued by the gravely wounded Emperor after he foresaw events that renewed his hope. 143
By the time of Rorschach's audience, the Emperor remains alive within the Golden Throne's ancient machinery, appearing to the observer as a “cold sun.” The encounter ends with Rorschach's memory of part of the meeting being erased. 507
During Rorschach's final ascension, the Emperor reveals that Rorschach's original soul had already been destroyed by Chaos during his earliest Simulator training. He identifies Rorschach as the twenty-second Primarch and explains that the Simulator is primarily Rorschach's own time- and space-traversing talent, though the Emperor and Chaos Gods can interfere with it to a degree. 1102 1103
Appearance
The Emperor's appearance is inconsistent across manifestations, often obscured by psychic radiance, black mist, or an indistinct silhouette.
- On the Golden Throne, he resembles a living “cold sun” inside an ancient mechanical device. 507
- A manifestation over Asgard takes the form of a continent-spanning golden phantom. 199
- A spectral projection appears in golden Power Armor with a massive Power Fist. 263
- During Rorschach's ascension, his humanoid form is veiled in dense black mist and shifts between the faces of an old man, a troubled middle-aged man, and a young man. 1102
Personality
The Emperor is presented as utterly devoted to the survival of humanity, but not necessarily to the welfare of individual humans. He accepts war, sacrifice, and extreme measures as the price of securing humanity's future. 2 263
His ruthlessness extends to treating the corpses of demon gods as material for a psychic defensive construct. Even Odin warns that this plan could endanger the Emperor by exposing him to corruption from his other self. 867
Despite his severity, he displays concern for his Primarchs. He grants Rorschach psychic power, supports him during his ascension, and hesitates before asking him to bear a plan that will inflict suffering for tens of thousands of years. 1071 1102 1103
