Background
Power Armor is powered combat equipment used across the setting by Astartes, Primarchs, mortal troops, and machine entities. A masterwork Space Wolves suit is described as black plasteel armor marked with a golden wolf’s head and fitted directly over plasteel interfaces during its wearer’s induction. 96
Rorschach initially sought Power Armor through the Simulator’s designated-salvage function. His first major result was a Terminator suit too complex to fully operate without a Black Carapace, prompting Iron Man David to study its construction and propose an imitation version using locally available metal, electronic muscle bundles, and a new power source. 101 123
A targeted salvage later produced a Chaos-corrupted Mark IV Power Armor STC fragment, containing a neural-link design once associated with Martian Forge Lord Kelbor Hal. Rorschach rejected the fragment immediately because of its corruption. 130
Raditus and David subsequently turned the original Terminator suit into a succession of locally produced and modified systems. Their work developed from the Raditus-pattern Tactical Dreadnought Armour into heavily armed Terminator platforms, speed-oriented human feedback armor, and eventually the Vibranium-based Spark of Glory series. 148 178 240 602 990
Construction and Operation
Interfaces and Actuation
Power Armor combines an armored outer shell, an internal skeleton, electronic muscle bundles, and specialized life-support and detection systems. A Terminator suit uses plasteel armor over an adamantium skeleton, with electronic muscles and sensor systems connected to the wearer’s neural responses. 115 123
- Astartes interface — Standard Astartes armor links through the Black Carapace, allowing direct control of its powered systems. 115 239
- Human power feedback — Inquisitorial feedback armor allows mortal use without a Black Carapace, though its reaction speed is slower than conventional Astartes armor. 239
- Unaided wear — A wearer without the proper interface can force themselves into a Mark II Expeditionary Pattern suit, but receives no true neural connection to its systems. 340
- Mag-boots — Used for stability, rapid movement, and attachment to spacecraft hulls in vacuum. 114 1041
Protection
Defensive performance varies sharply by pattern. Basic power armor withstands small-arms fire, while Terminator armor is designed as a heavier battlefield platform with substantial armor and shield protection. 54 152
- Plasteel and ceramite shells — Provide the primary physical protection of conventional suits. 148
- Shield generator — The Raditus-pattern Terminator retains the original Terminator shield generator, allowing it to withstand sustained long-range fire and explosions. 148 152
- Vibranium construction — Spark of Glory uses mixed Vibranium that accumulates absorbed kinetic energy and releases it in a single burst. 602
- Self-regenerating energy shields — Third-generation Starfire Glory contains numerous Vibranium energy shields distributed throughout the armor. 990
- Panacea life support — The Six-Armed Ironclad Terminator’s life-support system uses liquefied Panacea, intended to restore its wearer after otherwise fatal injuries. 376
Mobility
Standard and Terminator suits use electronic muscle bundles, servos, and mag-boots to translate the wearer’s movements into amplified motion. Terminator armor sacrifices mobility for protection, although the Raditus-pattern 1.0 reduces weight enough to move at roughly standard power-armor speed. 148 152
- Speed-Type vents — Arc Reactor-derived vents at the power pack, elbows, and boots increase acceleration, charging speed, and striking speed. 240
- Hovering — The same vent system can briefly hold the speed-type suit aloft after expending its auxiliary power. 240
- Wing-arms and flight — Spark of Glory’s wings can act as mechanical arms or fold into a short-range propulsion system. 602
- Integrated thrusters — Third-generation Starfire Glory moves its propulsion system into the mag-boots and power pack, freeing the back for hidden servo-arms. 990
Sensors and Support Systems
- Augur array — Terminator armor includes an augur array, motion sensor, and threat-detection device. 115
- Neural probe interfaces — Raditus-pattern Terminator 2.0 integrates neural probe connections. 178
- Skull helmet — Spark of Glory uses a retractable modular skull helmet made with Living Metal and Vibranium, operated through a neural link. 602
- Limitation — The retractable skull helmet has roughly one-third less defense than a single-piece Vibranium helmet, though it remains far stronger than plasteel protection. 602
- Environmental tradeoff — Terminator 2.0 removes most environmental support systems, leaving thermoregulation but making the suit unsuitable for ocean or space combat. 178
Known Patterns
| Pattern | Known characteristics |
|---|---|
| Masterwork Space Wolves Power Armor | Black plasteel shell, golden wolf-head ornamentation, and plasteel-interface integration. 96 |
| Mark II Expeditionary Pattern | An Astartes-exclusive suit requiring plasteel interfaces; it is not a mortal force-feedback design. 340 |
| Terminator Power Armour | A 2.8-meter, three-ton heavy suit with plasteel shell, adamantium frame, electronic muscles, life support, sensors, and a power-pack energy source. 123 |
| Raditus-Pattern Tactical Dreadnought Armour | Locally rebuilt Terminator armor using an ultra-durable skeleton, replaceable titanium-alloy shell panels, and a transferred shield generator. 148 |
| Inquisitor’s Human Power Feedback Power Armor | Blue masterwork armor formerly belonging to Inquisitor “Steel Skull”; designed to save a mortal wearer rather than rely on a Black Carapace. 239 |
| Six-Armed Ironclad Terminator | Three-meter Terminator platform with four Vibranium servo-arms, a Disintegration Field, full shield and support systems, and Panacea-based life support. 376 |
| Ring of Fire | Dark-red Primarch-grade Space Wolves armor that periodically projects a melta-strength ring-shaped shockwave. 732 |
| Spark of Glory / Starfire Glory | Primarch-class Vibranium armor line built around kinetic-energy storage, enhanced strength, mobility systems, servo-arms, and increasingly advanced defensive systems. 602 990 |
Integrated Systems & Armaments
Servo-Arms
Servo-arms extend an armor’s reach, weapon capacity, and utility.
- Terminator 2.0 mounts three rear servo-arms, including an array of three bolters on one arm. 178
- The Six-Armed Ironclad Terminator uses four Antarctic Vibranium servo-arms and Vibranium palms linked to a Disintegration Field. 376
- Third-generation Starfire Glory replaces its wings with four concealed Vibranium servo-arms controlled through the neural interface. 990
Heavy Firepower
- Bolters — Terminator 2.0’s servo-arm array supports three bolter rifles for sustained fire. 178
- Multi-barreled melta destroyers — Available as interchangeable long-range modules for third-generation Starfire Glory. 990
- Laser cannons — Miniaturized, concentrated laser cannon modules are also available for the third generation. 990
- Necron gauss cannons — A further optional module for the third-generation platform. 990
- Psionic ray — The Mind Stone skull helmet projects a beam capable of gradually melting Vibranium under continuous fire. 661
- Rorschach’s Claw — The fourth-generation armor’s transformable arm can revert to a hand or expend core energy on large-scale beams comparable to a Volcano Cannon. 1081
Combat Record
- Rorschach’s Raditus-pattern Terminator withstands Hydra micro-tank explosions behind its force field, then destroys the vehicles with a Phase Sword and bolter fire. 152
- During the Stark Expo attack, the Terminator armor destroys Iron Soldiers and kills Ivan Vanko with its bolter array. 180
- The armor’s electronic muscles allow Rorschach to seize Iron Man’s flight thruster, crush it, and slam the armored Stark into the ground. 181
- Spark of Glory provides enough strength amplification for Rorschach to barely wield Vulkan’s exceptionally heavy Dawnbreaker Warhammer, though only for three to four swings before exhaustion. 602
- The Mind Stone-equipped helmet’s psionic ray is used as a long-range weapon against a Daemon Engine during the defense of the Imperium. 661 714
Limitations
- Terminator armor’s complex systems cannot be fully understood or safely redesigned without complete technical blueprints and specialized expertise. 123
- Titanium-alloy replacement shells in the Raditus-pattern 1.0 reduce close-combat defense by roughly one-third compared with plasteel and ceramite. 148
- Terminator 2.0 improves armor and firepower at the cost of increased weight, reduced speed, and loss of hostile-environment capability. 178
- The speed-type armor can only hover briefly and cannot achieve sustained flight without sacrificing armor, system space, and defensive capability. 240
- Spark of Glory’s internal servos and electronic muscles can fail under excessive shock even when its Vibranium shell remains outwardly undamaged. 683
- Third-generation Starfire Glory’s heavy-weapon modules must be installed before combat; unavailable modules cannot be prepared quickly in battle. 990
