Background / History

Rin Tohsaka summoned Da Vinci using Leonardo da Vinci’s Adoration of the Magi as a catalyst. Da Vinci manifested through one of Touko Aozaki’s spare bodies, immediately introduced herself as Rin’s Servant, and correctly inferred that her summoning was intended for Servant research. Rin asked her to call her “Rin” rather than “Master,” establishing their unusually informal partnership. 24

Within a week, Da Vinci’s assistance accelerated Rin and Touko’s work at Garan no Dou. She helped implement a temple structure based on knowledge Rin had exchanged, and later stabilized runaway magical energy so that it could be returned to a silver cross and form the temple according to Rin’s design. 25

Da Vinci became central to Rin’s later projects. She participated in the creation of Fujino Asagami as a Servant using a Blank Spirit Foundation, remotely supported Rin’s Bounded Field against Bartholomello Lorelei, and improved the time required to accumulate starlight for one of Rin’s attacks from over half a year to roughly one week. 26 31 38

She extracted and sublimated Gry’s Dragon Factor with Tiamat’s Dragon Crystal, then performed the procedure that connected Rin’s nerves, blood vessels, muscles, and Magic Circuits to the crystal. The successful enhancement gave Rin an uncontrollable attraction to jewels until she adapted to the Dragon Factor. 45 46

After Chaldea’s control-room explosion and Rin’s disappearance into a Singularity, Da Vinci assumed temporary command with assistance from Fujino, Touko, and Rin’s allies. She froze the Chaldean Masters in cryostasis, activated internal security measures through Touko, and directed repairs to restore contact with Rin. 87

Da Vinci later operated and defended Chaldea’s Spiritual Computer during crises in the Soul World. When Touko’s experiment caused the computer to grow flesh-like tentacles and generate monsters, Da Vinci sealed the facility, used defensive puppets to hold the creatures back, and continued issuing commands from the terminal until Rin arrived to protect her. 73 74

During the battle against Cthulhu, Da Vinci left her command duties to rescue Drake and the pirates, recognizing that both she and Drake possessed Star Pioneer. She used Human Order and her inventions against Cthulhu, eventually deploying Soul Antimatter despite the danger of its consequences. 180 181 187

Appearance

Da Vinci manifests in a female form derived from Touko’s spare body. Her hair changes from orange to brown during the summoning, and her face resembles the Mona Lisa. She is often seen wearing glasses while conducting research. 24 45

Her confidence is often justified by her ability to solve problems that overwhelm other magi, but it can also lead to rash interruptions, such as accidentally disrupting Rin’s ritual while rushing to share a research breakthrough. 25

She is energetic and intensely curious about unfamiliar technology, becoming absorbed in projects such as Atalanta’s bow and Servant Universe cold-fusion research.
