Background / History
Artoria reclaimed the Holy Lance at Camlann rather than dying when she was meant to. Remaining bound to the lance caused her to become a wandering spirit and gradually deified her; the Lion King who should have emerged possessed almost no emotion or humanity and was guided by the Holy Lance. 49
During the Fifth Holy Grail War, she manifested through Shirou Emiya's summoning as a Servant using Gry's blood. This Servant incarnation inherited a measure of humanity and emotion from that blood, despite her deified nature. As Lancer, she protected Shirou and Kallian amid Fuyuki's factional violence and fought Rin Tohsaka and Gilgamesh. 49 50
Shirou recalled her from battle with a Command Spell when his mana was nearly exhausted. Deprived of sufficient magical energy, she was later defeated by Saber Alter and dissolved into spiritrons; the Lion King ruling Camelot subsequently regained the memories of this Servant avatar. 51 53 220
In the Sixth Singularity, the Lion King established Camelot as an overwhelmingly dominant power. Having been almost completely assimilated by Rhongomyniad over centuries, she considered herself no longer Artoria, but a deity walking the earth. She collected Holy Grails to prevent their uncertainty from disrupting her intended unification of the world. 220
She commanded Gawain to repel Saber Alter and Black Saber at Camelot's gates, intervened personally when their clash endangered the city, and drove off Níðhöggr to protect Camelot from further devastation. 227 228 229
Merlin's attempt to force the ancient prophecy back into motion—especially through the restored Caliburn and Saber Alter's transformation into the White Dragon—made Merlin a mortal enemy in the Lion King's eyes. She nevertheless withstood repeated assaults by several factions, including Black Saber, Mordred, Morgan, and Merlin. 240 241 242
After Lancelot became a servant of the Great Nameless and hid himself in another timeline, the Lion King took him into a timeless realm for a final duel. She forgave him, defeated him honorably, and received his warning that the silver Holy Grail was an ill omen. 250 251
Rin Tohsaka later used a dream woven through the Holy Lance to return the Lion King to the present and make her relive her history. Rather than pursuing an eternal Camelot alone, Artoria chose to seek a kingdom built alongside her family and companions. 258 259
Merlin subsequently sheltered her in Avalon, where they spent centuries balancing the influence of the Holy Sword and Holy Lance to restore her humanity. She later traveled with Merlin to Uruk, where she sought to help rebuild Camelot after Uruk's devastation. 262 266 307
Appearance
The Lion King is a mature, slender manifestation of Artoria Pendragon, distinguished from other King Arthur variants by the Holy Lance and her more mature physique. 214
- Wears a mask during her Fuyuki appearance. 50
- Fights with the Holy Lance Rhongomyniad. 50 229
- Rides warhorses in battle, including O'stalion in Fuyuki and Donstalian in Camelot. 50 249
- Later appears casually in a white bathrobe while residing in the Garden of Avalon. 277 278
Personality
At the height of her assimilation with Rhongomyniad, the Lion King is cold, composed, and profoundly detached. She regards Morgan with indifference, believes she has transcended her former fate, and pursues Camelot's permanence with absolute resolve. 220 240
Her divine detachment does not prevent her from recognizing knightly honor. She protects Camelot from destructive threats, acknowledges Lancelot's spirit even after his betrayal, and ultimately forgives him. 229 251
After spending centuries with Merlin in Avalon, she recovers much of her humanity. She becomes noticeably less formal and more playful, though she remains proud, direct, hungry, and eager for battle. 262 266 277 272
Abilities & Skills
Divine Nature and Rhongomyniad Assimilation
The Lion King is effectively assimilated with Rhongomyniad, a Star Anchor whose core is a pillar of light supporting the world's layers. This makes her equivalent to the goddess Rhongomyniad. 220 241
- Her full divine aura can paralyze or terrify most combatants across an entire battlefield. 240
- She can create a magical phantom of Camelot that obscures information about her from observation. 243
- Her deification grants overwhelming physical power, enough to dominate several Heroic Spirits in close combat. 241
Guardian of the End
Guardian of the End (EX) is the Lion King's Inherent Skill, derived from Rhongomyniad's role as an anchor of the world. 241
- Attacks originating from the world cannot affect her in principle. 241
- Excalibur's destructive power and Avalon's defense were ineffective against her because both are tied to the world she anchors. 241
- The skill allowed her to withstand Black Saber's repeated Excalibur releases without injury. 241
Divine Judgment
The Lion King's principal Noble Phantasm attack manifests Rhongomyniad's divine power as devastating lances and torrents of light. 228 229
- She used it to pierce Níðhöggr's poisonous dragon breath and wound the dragon through its scales and chest. 229
- She can use it to intervene in clashes between other Noble Phantasms, as she did against Saber Alter and Gawain. 228
- Multiple Divine Judgments can immobilize an opponent before a follow-up Noble Phantasm strike. 256
Anchor Aweigh, Rhongomyniad
The Lion King can partially release the Holy Lance, causing it to erupt with light and form a pillar stretching toward the starry sky. 246
- The release preceded her confrontation with Olga Marie and Gungnir. 246
- Its power supports her status as a divine combatant rather than an ordinary Servant. 246
Spear of the End
Mounted on her warhorse, the Lion King can merge herself and the Holy Lance into an overwhelming aerial charge. 250
- The charge is described as her strongest attack. 250
- It annihilated Surtr, leaving only molten fragments behind and forcing the flame giant's soul into slumber. 250
- Donstalian's Holy Grail blessing improved its ability to carry the deified Lion King in combat. 249
Martial Skill
The Lion King is an exceptionally agile lance fighter despite her divine power and mounted combat style. 229 256
- She evaded Gilgamesh's volleys of Noble Phantasms while riding O'stalion. 50
- She fought Saber Alter in a clash powerful enough to crack the ground, uproot trees, and collapse houses. 52
- She defeated Mordred and Black Saber with minimal effort before engaging the latter in aerial combat. 241
- Astarte's physical attributes were below the Lion King's, though Astarte's predictive terminal initially suppressed her technique. 256
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Rhongomyniad / Holy Lance — Her defining weapon and the source of her divine nature. 220 241
- Donstalian — Her beloved warhorse; empowered with Camelot's Holy Grail. 249
- O'stalion — The horse she rode during the Fuyuki conflict. 50
- Avalon — A sheath carried by an earlier incarnation of King Arthur; its protection was ineffective against the Lion King. 101 241
- Holy Sword / Sword of Promised Victory — A sword associated with her former identity as King Arthur and later used to balance Rhongomyniad's influence. 101 262
Relationships
- Shirou Emiya — Her Master during the Fifth Holy Grail War. He recalled her with a Command Spell when his mana could no longer sustain her. 50 51
- Kallian Ortensia — Shirou's ally; entrusted the Lion King with defending the area around Shirou during Fuyuki's chaos. 50
- Martha — Allied with the Lion King while defending Shirou's home; Martha protected Shirou and Kallian at the Lion King's request. 52
- Merlin — Her teacher and longtime companion, but also the architect of plans that sought to restore her to prophecy. They later lived together in Avalon to balance her Holy Lance and Holy Sword influences. 240 262
- Morgan le Fay — Her blood-related sister and political adversary. The Lion King initially regarded Morgan as beneath concern, but later accepted her as “Sister” when choosing a different future. 220 259
- Gawain — One of her most loyal Knights of the Round Table. She trusted him enough to send him alone with Camelot's Holy Grail to repel invaders. 227
- Agravain — Her devoted subordinate and strategist, entrusted with Camelot's internal affairs and defense. 220 227
- Lancelot — Former knight and later enemy after becoming a servant of the Great Nameless. The Lion King forgave him before his final death. 250 251
- Mordred — A rebellious variant whom the Lion King recognizes as both not Mordred and still Mordred. Their conflict repeatedly evokes the Battle of Camlann. 214 256 259
- Saber Alter — A hostile alternate Artoria who defeated the Lion King's mana-depleted Servant incarnation, then later became a central rival in Camelot. 53 228 242
- Semiramis — An ally and frequent personal rival in the Garden of Avalon. The Lion King exploits Semiramis's concern for her appearance during their nonlethal fights. 277
- Gilgamesh — Initially a hostile rival in Fuyuki; later, as ruler of Uruk, he granted food and lodging to the Lion King and Merlin. 50 266 279
- Rin Tohsaka — Opponent in Fuyuki who later used a dream woven with the Holy Lance to help the Lion King reclaim her humanity and choose a new future. 50 259

Trivia
- The Lion King's immense appetite embarrasses her when Shirou prepares food for her. 49
- After centuries surviving on petals and dew in Avalon, she and Merlin consider ordinary food extraordinarily tempting. 266
- She developed a deliberately nonlethal version of Divine Judgment aimed at destroying Semiramis's clothing. 277
- She has B-rank Charisma, but it cannot enhance Uruk's soldiers because they recognize Gilgamesh rather than her as their king. 290
