Background / History
Ishtar notices the ritual in Ishtar City intended to offer Rin Tohsaka's body as a vessel. Intrigued by Rin having previously taken a portion of her power, she descends into Rin during the sacrifice; Ereshkigal independently descends as well. Rin's soul rank proves higher than either goddess's, preventing either deity from consuming her soul. 217 218
The three initially settle on a one-month arrangement: Ishtar controls Rin's body during the day, Ereshkigal at night, while Rin remains in her soul space to rebuild her magical foundation. Ishtar immediately travels to Uruk on Maanna, tears open Gilgamesh's palace roof to announce herself, and is attacked before Gilgamesh realizes she is using Rin's body. 218 219
During the Seventh Singularity, Ishtar works alongside Rin and Gilgamesh despite their antagonism. She helps protect Enkidu after the Sumerian gods curse him, an act that convinces the gods not to continue their assault on Gilgamesh and Enkidu. 271 272
Before Tiamat's return, Ishtar agrees to Rin's modified Trinity magecraft. The spell permanently links Rin, Ishtar, and Ereshkigal in life and death while allowing them to share their powers, divine authorities, Noble Phantasms, and magical energy. 295 296
Personality
Ishtar is willful, proud, greedy, and quick to anger when insulted. She repeatedly demands offerings from Gilgamesh in exchange for assistance and is especially attracted to jewelry, gems, and treasure. 219 263 275
Her reputation as a reckless fool is partly cultivated. She deliberately performs a “foolish woman” persona to discourage the Three Goddess Alliance from recruiting her, while retaining the cunning that made her capable of swindling other gods. 265 298
Rin's influence tempers some of Ishtar's cruelty. Rather than escalating immediately into deadly conflict, she becomes more inclined to demand compensation, argue, or humiliate opponents; she also shows genuine concern for Enkidu and ultimately cooperates against Tiamat. 219 271 297
Abilities & Skills
Divine Authority of Venus
Ishtar possesses authority associated with Venus, harvest, war, love, beauty, and destruction. Her divine rank lets Rin employ high-level magecraft that would otherwise be inaccessible. 20 264 298
- Can bestow harvest blessings on Uruk in exchange for tribute. 265
- Uses the Spear of Venus, a destructive golden spear/light attack derived from Ishtar's authority. 20 218 280
- Can employ Starlight of Venus, a light that erases the consciousness of those who see it. 20
- Her divine status helps Rin engrave the Final Runic and control the weather over the Persian Gulf. 298
Maanna
Ishtar rides the Heavenly Boat Maanna, using it for aerial transport and high-speed combat movement. 218 271
- Demonstrates exceptional piloting skill, with rapid acceleration, turns, drifting, and evasive maneuvers. 271 283
- Uses Maanna to travel between Uruk, the North Wall, Mount Ebisu, and battlefields. 218 271 297
- Her reckless driving can incapacitate passengers with motion sickness. 283
Dragon Factor Synchronization
While operating Rin's body, Ishtar can activate the Tiamat Dragon Crystallization and enter the Dragon Factor state due to her extreme compatibility with Rin. 219
- Grants enormous, near-infinite magical-power reserves. 280 281
- Enhances her ability to wield the Spear of Venus and conduct large-scale summoning rituals. 280
- Requires Rin's body and the Tiamat Dragon Crystal; it is not presented as Ishtar's independent power. 219 280
Gugalanna
Ishtar is the master of Gugalanna, the Bull of Heaven, whose presence and authority are tied to large-scale weather phenomena. 299
- Helps Rin retrieve Gugalanna from a parallel world through a ritual on Mount Ebisu. 280 281
- Uses magical ribbons and the Dragon Factor's power to pull the Bull of Heaven through the interdimensional gate. 280 281
- Offers to deploy Gugalanna against the Lahmu, but Rin preserves it as a trump card for Tiamat. 297
Trinity with Rin and Ereshkigal
Rin's modified Trinity magecraft fuses the three women's powers without merging their personalities. 295
- Allows each member to access the others' magecraft, divine authority, Noble Phantasms, magical power, and abilities. 295
- Gives Ishtar and Ereshkigal temporary spiritron bodies that can operate outside Rin's body while remaining near her. 296
- Provides effectively inexhaustible magical power and stamina during the Tiamat battle. 297
- Permanently binds Rin, Ishtar, and Ereshkigal together; they cannot separate and share life and death. 295
