Background / History

Konoha fought the other four great shinobi villages during the war. By its later stages, it was sending children onto the battlefield, and Kaze later said the village had come close to destruction. He credited Uchiha fighters with repelling several attacks 194 571.

Accounts of the war identify several participants and fronts:

• Minato Namikaze fought Kumogakure’s A–B Combo, Kirigakure forces, and Iwagakure’s attempts to invade Konoha 390 448 591.
• Uchiha Kiyoshi earned a reputation as an Uchiha prodigy through his service against Kirigakure’s ninja corps 465.
• Uchiha Shisui emerged during the war and earned the title Body Flicker Shisui 195.
• Obito Uchiha earned military merit during the war and gave Kakashi his eye, which later earned Kakashi the title Copy Ninja 550 551.

Aftermath

• The war ended when Kaze was still a child; Ōnoki estimates that only a few years have passed since its end when Kaze becomes prominent 195.
• Less than twenty years after the war, Kaze observes that the economies of countries other than Konoha are declining 584.
• Kaze cites the First, Second, and Third Shinobi World Wars as evidence that the balance between villages has not produced lasting peace. He uses that history to argue for unifying the shinobi world 407 571.
