Background and History

Loken carries the memories and identity of a Luna Wolves officer who served in Horus's Mournival. In his present existence, he is a Deployment Box projection rather than the original Garviel Loken 253 280 495.

During the expedition against the Necrons, Chen Xi appoints him a force commander. Loken organizes a defense in the Zaporozhye system against unfamiliar xenos and later helps restrain the Blood Knights and Flesh Tearers when their chapter masters demand an immediate assault 280 305.

Loken's past becomes a crisis when he sees Hathor Luperca at an Ash Knights training ground. Recognizing in her the presence of Horus, whose betrayal he remembers, he attacks with his Power Sword. Hathor repeatedly repels him without seriously striking back. Chen Xi subsequently explains that Hathor is a separate projection bearing Horus's memories and traits, while Loken himself is also a projection. Loken accepts the explanation as a temporary reality, not as grounds to trust or forgive her 493 494 495.

Chen Xi then assigns Loken as Hathor's adjutant: he is to examine her orders, decisions, and loyalty for any sign that she might endanger the Imperium. Loken accepts the duty despite his continuing distrust. He later points out a firepower shortfall in an Ash Knights battle review and serves alongside Hathor during the campaign against corrupted forces 496 517 522.

Personality

Loken is an experienced, disciplined commander, but the sight of Hathor overwhelms his composure. His attack abandons tactical judgment in favor of repeated, reckless charges. Learning what she is brings his violence under control without ending his suspicion 280 494 495.

His later assignment gives that suspicion a defined purpose: he watches Hathor's decisions for threats to the Chapter and the Imperium rather than attacking her on sight 496 498.
