Background / History

Arcueid is the last princess of the True Ancestors and normally sleeps within Millennium Castle. She awakens to pursue Roa—an immortal Dead Apostle who repeatedly reincarnates and whom she has hunted for centuries. Roa’s revival in Misaki Town brings her to Japan. She identifies him as an EX-ranked member of the Twenty-Seven Dead Apostle Ancestors and the source of the city’s Dead Apostle outbreak 151 154.

Her fear of blood stems from a previous loss of control: after drinking blood for the first time, she went berserk and killed every True Ancestor in Millennium Castle except herself. Consequently, she refuses even Kanade’s blood despite knowing it could rapidly restore her strength 165.

Before Kanade’s intervention, Tohno Shiki dismembers her using Mystic Eyes of Death Perception. Although the attack drastically weakens her, her True Ancestor body begins slowly reconstructing itself; Kanade accelerates the process with healing Runes 153. Her weakened state worsens after protecting others from Nero Chaos, leaving her close to vanishing and unable to sustain herself without blood or prolonged hibernation 167 175 176.

Roa’s defeat returns power he had stolen from her, partially stabilizing her body 181. Later, after drinking Kanade’s blood, she satisfies her bloodlust and is able to wield 200% of her combat power 195.

Arcueid is a striking young woman with long golden hair, ruby-red eyes, and pale skin. Her appearance is repeatedly compared to that of a princess or fairy.

Personality

Arcueid is innocent, curious, and unfamiliar with ordinary human customs. At her first meeting with Kanade, she asks basic questions about book signings, costumes, manga, and why his fictional counterpart resembles him. She treasures the manga he gives her and considers a simple bento especially delicious because it is the first meal anyone has treated her to 151 152.

Despite her immense power, she is emotionally direct and often impulsive. She becomes jealous when Kanade interacts closely with female fans or other women, yet repeatedly attempts to distance herself because she fears harming him through bloodlust 155 159 165. She is protective of Kanade and initially tries to shield him from Dead Apostles even while severely weakened 157.

Arcueid is also stubborn and vengeful. She has pursued Roa for centuries after he deceived her, remains hostile toward Tohno Shiki for killing her once, and openly admits that countless people may want revenge for offenses she committed in the past 155 161 170. Her lack of worldly knowledge makes her susceptible to bad advice, including Mellian’s misleading guidance on how to thank Kanade 171.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Misaki Town and the Dead Apostle Hunt

Arcueid first appears at Kanade’s manga signing, confused by the human event and nearly provoking a confrontation with security. Kanade calms her, gives her manga, and later shares a meal with her 151 152.

After her bloodlust is triggered by Kanade’s blood, she attempts to avoid him rather than risk harming him. Tohno Shiki subsequently dismembers her, and Kanade finds her remains, heals her, and conceals his foreknowledge of the attack to ensure she will need his assistance 152 153.

Arcueid reveals her True Ancestor nature and Roa’s return. Though initially determined to hunt alone, she accepts Kanade’s offer to become his partner in eliminating Misaki Town’s Dead Apostles 154.

Roa and Nero Chaos

Arcueid accompanies Kanade while he investigates the Dead Apostle outbreak, the Tohno Family, and Roa’s host. Her old enmity toward Tohno Shiki nearly sparks a conflict, but Kanade persuades her to wait 161 163.

Her depleted condition prevents her from contributing as much as she wants, intensifying her fear that she is a burden. Kanade reassures her that she is his comrade and encourages her to recover her strength 165.

Nero Chaos attacks Arcueid and the Tohno group, targeting her specifically. Arcueid sustains severe injuries while covering their retreat, leaving her increasingly unstable until Roa is finally defeated 167 170 175.

Roa’s Defeat and Recovery

While near disappearance, Arcueid refuses Kanade’s blood and urges him to prioritize sealing Roa 178. Roa’s death returns some of her stolen power and makes her body less ethereal 181.

When Kanade expends his life force saving Ciel, Arcueid, and others, Arcueid agrees to turn him into her Familiar to preserve his life. Kanade uses Izanagi to evade the transformation, angering her, but the two reconcile and he confesses his love 182.

Holy Grail War

After recovering through Kanade’s blood, Arcueid travels with him to London and participates in the Fifth Holy Grail War 195. She openly displays greater power during the conflict and remains fiercely loyal to Kanade 217 218.

Her relationship with Kanade becomes increasingly domestic and possessive. She shops for clothes with him, is jealous of his interactions with Martha and Olga Marie, and later expresses her wish to have a child with him 224 228 256 259.
