Background / History

Grea was born in a remote Welsh village. Her body began changing three years before she met Higashino Kanade, eventually making her resemble the King Arthur of local legend. The village thereafter regarded her as a divine child; her family and friends became fearful and distant, leaving her alienated from her former life. She came to resent her unfamiliar appearance and avoided mirrors because it made her feel as though a dead person occupied her body. 74

Her original purpose was to serve as a vessel for King Arthur's revival. After King Arthur manifested in the Fourth Holy Grail War, Grea's body resonated with Arthur from afar and developed toward Arthur's form. This resonance gave her Servant-comparable physical strength and Magic Power, though she had not yet fully developed traits such as the Red Dragon heart and Royal Stomach. 53

While travelling with Lord El-Melloi II, Grea met Higashino Kanade at Gryphon Ashborn's castle. Kanade's gaze made her nervous, and she was initially shy around him. 15 During the castle crisis, she arrived too late to assist against the Demonic Beast and felt guilty, but Kanade comforted her. 27

Kanade later sought out the younger Grea in Wales, defeated her tomb-guardian master, and took Yad from her. After Yad was separated from Grea, its simulated personality ceased functioning and it entered dormancy. 74 75 Kanade eventually kept Grea as his disciple, using forged letters to her master to secure her with him. 136 137

Appearance

Grea is a gray-haired girl who resembles King Arthur/Artoria closely enough that Irisviel mistakes her for Saber. She commonly conceals herself beneath a cloak and carries Yad in a long, narrow cage in her right hand. 132 138

Grea is timid and socially anxious, particularly around unfamiliar people. She hides behind Kanade when frightened and initially struggles to speak up, but she gradually becomes more willing to connect with others, such as when she calls Irisviel “big sister.” 30 138

Despite her shyness, Grea is resolute in battle and intensely loyal to those she considers her master, comrades, or friends. She repeatedly fights opponents beyond her strength to protect Kanade and Fujino, even after sustaining severe injuries. 237 246 She is also sensitive about being unable to contribute, blaming herself after failing to protect Waver and Kanade against Hephaestion. 56

Hephaestion Conflict

Grea fights alongside Kanade against Hephaestion with Yad's scythe. She later attempts to deploy Rhongomyniad but collapses from motion sickness, leaving Kanade to continue the battle alone. Her perceived failure leaves her guilt-ridden until Waver reassures her. 53 54 56

Kanade's Disciple

After Kanade takes her in, Grea becomes one of his three disciples alongside Fujino and Ryougi Sakura. She studies Kanade's past through his manga, trains as a ninja, and learns Sage Mode. 137 145 187 188

Genin Examination

Grea serves as her team's hidden trump card during Kanade's bell test, entering Sage Mode to confront him directly. She ultimately releases Rhongomyniad against him; although the team does not defeat Kanade, all three disciples receive Genin headbands for demonstrating teamwork. 188 189

Grea joins Fujino and Sakura in infiltrating Fuyuki Castle and holding off Lord Bartholomew Lorelei. She later fights Enkidu, refuses to stay down despite injury, and is eventually rescued by Kanade. 213 237 238
