Rebirth: Being Fed in the Yao Tribe

Nidhogg watched in secret from within the Inexhaustible Spring.

Beside the spring on the ground was a shadow, like a stone, or a sculpture.

It almost never moved from that spot.

It was a tall knight covered head to toe in heavy armor, the black armor scored with scratches and frost. A layer of red patterning had been forged over the metal surface, like fire sealed in ice.

The knight leaned on a dark-red greatsword. Most of the time, it stood as motionless as a lump of iron.

The locals sometimes came over to pay their respects to him.

"Good morning, Lord Blood Knight."

"Lord Blood Knight, you've worked hard. If possible, please rest for a while too."

"Lord Blood Knight, may I ask if Lord Yao has sent down any new oracle?"

The Blood Knight rarely spoke.

Only when someone offered him a sacrifice would he make a sound.

"I am no God, and must not overstep."

With that, he refused.

The Blood Knight was an Apostle, serving a God named Lord Yao.

That made Nidhogg feel the situation was troublesome.

It had dealt with Apostles as a group in the past. Apostles each had their own strengths and weaknesses, but the most troublesome part was that if they could not win, they would ask their God for support.

Nidhogg hated that most of all.

If you've got the guts, fight one-on-one!

Wasn't this just bullying it because it had no God backing it?

It knew perfectly well in its heart.

It could not clash head-on with the Blood Knight. The Inexhaustible Spring had already been occupied by that Lord Yao.

So Nidhogg followed the underground streams of the Mist Country and went to move about somewhere far away from the Blood Knight. Very soon, it was exposed.
