Background / History

Apostles are a god’s principal agents in the world. The Forest God’s dying Apostle was found sealed in a stone coffin, her body nearly fused with its stone shell. The Temple described Apostles as beings who carry out divine commands, hear a god’s voice, and serve as vessels through which a god may descend. 7

Lu Yao’s first Apostle was the former Forest God Apostle Forest Sword, later known as Isabel. He spent 500 Faith Points to repair her “broken shell and dried-up soul,” reviving her from the Sea of Lingering Souls and converting her to his Temple. 11 12

As Lu Yao’s influence expanded, Apostles ceased to be exclusively recovered relics of fallen gods. He used Apostle’s Marks to recruit willing targets, including the Blood Knight Nevid, Snowman Jimmy, Philes, Pinkman, Slaimod of Myriad Incarnations, and later exceptional individuals from outside the conventional Prophet and Hero ranks. 47 89 94 193 252 517

Divine Communication and Descent

Apostles can receive and answer a deity’s words directly. Isabel was able to read Lu Yao’s typed decrees and respond through dialogue, a capability that distinguished her from ordinary Pixelated Villagers. 12

Flame of Faith

An Apostle is bound to its god through the Flame of Faith.

• If the god they serve falls, an Apostle’s Flame of Faith is extinguished; without another god rekindling it, the Apostle gradually turns to ash and dies. 58
• Revived Apostles are restored from the Sea of Lingering Souls through Faith expenditure. 11 47 89 94
• Lu Yao regards his Apostles as extensions of himself within the Simulator, “like a god’s arms and limbs.” 58

Wisdom and Growth

Wisdom is the core ability that allows Apostles to hear divine will and improve their other abilities. 12

• The fastest method of leveling is direct expenditure of Faith, though the cost is extremely high. 12
• Normal advancement comes through carrying out decrees, gathering faith, exploration, battle, rituals, and enlightenment. 12
• Apostles possess differing innate growth paths; Isabel can personally direct her development, while Nevid and Jimmy state that their growth is inborn. 91
• Abilities are not completely fixed. Nevid developed the Fire Element ability after years of fighting in seas of fire. 133

Combat and Command

Apostles may be combatants, commanders, scouts, artisans, or support units depending on their individual abilities. 11

• Some Apostles can be directly operated through Manual Mode with health, mana, movement, and active skill controls. Nevid’s available skills included Corruption Creation, Enchantment, and Flesh is Weak. 55
• Control options are not identical for every Apostle; Isabel did not display Nevid’s Manual Mode option. 55

Apostle abilities vary widely.

• Forest Sword (Isabel) — Summons a Holy Sword to amplify combat attributes; afterward creates Forest Elemental Creatures based on the battle and available mana. 12
• Lingering Prayer (Isabel) — Temporarily awakens dead spirits from the Sea of Lingering Souls to aid her. 12 38
• Bone Creation (Philes) — Creates Bone Creatures from bones; their strength depends on the quantity and quality of the source remains. 92
• Symbiote (Philes) — Allows Philes to exist through multiple symbiotic bodies and gain additional bonuses. 92
• Undead (Jimmy) — Allows Jimmy to revive after being killed, making him suitable for dangerous scouting and bait tactics. 89
• Magnetism (Fahai) — Lets Fahai attract and repel metal objects; he used it to lift a Steam Carriage into the air. 517

Apostle’s Mark

The Apostle’s Mark is a conversion item that selects a willing target and turns it into an Apostle. 47
