Background & History

Xia Ling originated from another world, where she grew up in an orphanage, graduated college while carrying student loans, and lived alone. After transmigrating into Changkong City of Honkai Impact 3rd, she immediately died amid the Honkai outbreak. Her half-finished Integrated Strategies System activated early to preserve her and transferred her consciousness into a Sami-themed trial space. She needed to clear at least the third floor to secure a new body and prevent repeated deaths. 1

The system is shaped by Xia Ling’s own past experience with Integrated Strategies. Its trials provide recruitment vouchers, collectibles, equipment, upgrades, and training opportunities, but quitting a run forfeits its rewards and retries are limited to once a week. 2

After reaching Elite Evolution Stage 1, Xia Ling returned to Changkong City with a reinforced body, a custom scythe, and the ability to use Honkai Energy. She set infiltrating St. Freya Academy as her immediate priority, intending to use its relative safety to train while her other bodies and recruited allies explored more dangerous possibilities. 6

Theresa and Himeko accepted her at St. Freya despite recognizing that her history was unclear. Xia Ling became a teaching assistant, mainly supervising Kiana’s self-study, while also joining St. Freya’s combat roster. Her unconventional combat instincts and survival-focused tactics gradually became apparent to Himeko. 9 11 29

Xia Ling later developed a close operational connection with Flame Willow Xia Ling, another version of herself. The two can share thoughts, perception, and sensory experience, allowing them to coordinate plans and training across separate bodies. 16

Her involvement with the Elysian Realm brought her into contact with Elysia and the Flame-Chasers. After Kiana survived alone in Changkong City, Xia Ling found her, cared for her, and took responsibility for helping her regain control over the Herrscher of the Void’s power. Xia Ling also manipulated World Serpent and Otto’s schemes to protect her allies. She deliberately allowed Jackal to capture her in order to expose Jackal’s plans, and later confronted Otto directly, disabling Void Archive, defeating him with the Corrosion Key, and taking his Soul Steel body. 120 161 166

During the Theater of Domination incident, Xia Ling’s consciousness became trapped in her Herrscher Core while her body was controlled by the Thousand-Man Herrscher’s malevolent thoughts. With Elysia’s guidance, she mastered her core and integrated with Origin Authority, ultimately regaining control. 242 243 245

On the moon, Xia Ling fought Kevin as part of the plan to bring Kiana to Finality. She activated the King’s Set and sacrificed herself to transfer her Finality power to Kiana, but Elysia later helped her regain her body and fully inherit Origin Authority. Xia Ling returned wearing the Origin Key armor and rejoined the battle. 327 328

Following the battle, Xia Ling retained nearly twenty percent of Finality’s power and turned her attention to finding Griseo in the Sea of Quantum. She later projected her consciousness to Floros as part of the effort to approach Griseo and confront Sosa. 331 338 341

Xia Ling is notably petite, with students initially perceiving her as cute, well-behaved, and much younger-looking than expected for a teacher. Her usual outward demeanor is stoic and cautious. 11
