Conflict with Uchiha Chen

Three years before Chen steals Madara's remains, Naruto fails to meet Chen after being urgently summoned by the Fire Daimyō; Chen waits for him in Konoha's reception area. 4 When Chen later takes Madara's corpse, Naruto works with Shikamaru and Sasuke to investigate him, eventually seeking Orochimaru's knowledge of Chen's background and abilities. 4 12

Naruto and Sasuke confront Chen directly, but Chen counters their combined attacks with his dojutsu and time-based abilities. Naruto is severely injured and hospitalized after the encounter. 26 28 32

Defense of Konoha

When Konoha comes under escalating attack, Naruto refuses strategies that would use the dead or disrupt the Tailed Beasts' lives. 117 He instead draws on Kurama's chakra to empower the village's defenders and resolves to protect Kurama from Chen. 128

Kawaki's Adoption and Resignation

Naruto chooses forgiveness after learning of Kawaki's actions against Boruto and Himawari, officially accepts him as a Leaf ninja and son, and restores Kawaki's severed hand. 181 Facing public outrage, Naruto kneels before Konoha's citizens and vows to personally train Kawaki and bear responsibility for any future harm. 182

After the destruction caused by Isshiki's return and Kaguya's revival, Naruto steps down as Hokage and leaves Konoha to regain trust through action. Kakashi assumes the burden of leadership. 210
