Background

Obito was originally assigned to Minato Namikaze's team alongside Kakashi Hatake and Rin Nohara. The Third Hokage hoped that the bond between Obito, Kakashi, and Rin would help address Kakashi's psychological issues; Rin was explicitly identified as Obito's love interest. 19

During the Kannabi Bridge incident, Obito was presumed dead. He survived, however, and was discovered in an underground hideout with a chimera-like reconstructed body. His survival was tied to Madara Uchiha, who trained him and enabled him to act under Madara's name. 91 253
