Ghidorah-assisted Orochi body 538 After Planet Godzilla tears apart his eight-headed body, Ghidorah’s intervention reconstructs it into a powerful three-headed form. Orochimaru emerges from the central head, but does not share control over the other two.

Background / History

Konoha career and defection

Orochimaru was the Third Hokage’s disciple and previously taught Nawaki. After Nawaki’s death, he became colder and gloomier; Hiruzen initially regarded his willingness to take Anko as a new pupil as a sign of recovery 7.

During the Third Shinobi World War, Orochimaru fought on the Western Front alongside Tsunade and Minato. He served as supreme commander, killed Kitsuchi during the collapse of Iwagakure’s forces, and received Hiruzen’s praise as the war approached its end. His research interests nevertheless extended to experimenting on Anko’s Original Kekkei Genkai and acquiring samples from Gen’ichi 11 43 55 106 115.

His pursuit of immortality eventually brought him into open conflict with Konoha. Anko refused to accompany him, so he left her with the Heaven’s Cursed Seal. He then targeted Ichie Uchiha’s Mangekyō Sharingan, but her Susanoo and Izanagi repelled him. His subsequent defection prompted Jiraiya to pursue him 126 128.

Danzo secretly sent Gen’ichi to assist his escape. Orochimaru instead tried to seize Gen’ichi’s body with Living Corpse Reincarnation. Godzilla destroyed the technique’s mental world and devoured his soul, while his White Scale Snake body was dismembered 128 129 131 133.

Resurrection and Otogakure

A soul fragment preserved inside Anko allowed Orochimaru to survive. From within her, he observed Gen’ichi and Godzilla’s confrontation with the Nine-Tails. On returning, he unsuccessfully attempted to restrain Gen’ichi and used Impure World Reincarnation to summon Danzo 176 178.

Orochimaru established Otogakure in the Land of Rice Fields with Shin and Jūgo. His visit to Hoshigakure, ostensibly as a hired Sound jonin, became a confrontation with Kakuzu and Hiruko, against whom he deployed reanimated Danzo and Sasori. Pain later personally recruited him into Akatsuki; Orochimaru’s attempt to steal the Deva Path’s eyes ended with him being repelled by Shinra Tensei 196 197 318.

He continued infiltrating Konoha despite pursuing a formal alliance between the two villages. After Gen’ichi rejected his offers and warned him away from Sasuke, he ordered Mizuki to infiltrate Gen’ichi’s circle. He subsequently stole Sharingan from Uchiha Police Force members and poisoned Yashiro. Minato signed the alliance while separately ordering Orochimaru’s assassination 232 233 235.

After another resurrection, Orochimaru learned that Gen’ichi had destroyed Ryūchi Cave and killed the White Snake Sage. He sought access to the Godzilla Sage through Tashin Hime, but also continued hunting promising vessels. In Kirigakure, Kimimaro and Suigetsu rejected his recruitment attempts; his encounter with former subordinate Shin escalated into a battle that left both severely injured 311 312 316 318 319.

Cloning and Mechagodzilla

Orochimaru and Shin renewed their cooperation to develop Sharingan-cloning technology. During their infiltration of Konoha with Shisui, Orochimaru used the fighting to collect experimental material. He later reanimated Tobirama to locate Madara’s remains, while avoiding Hashirama’s resurrection because he feared losing control 335 342 344 346.

After two years, their Sharingan-cloning project succeeded. Orochimaru’s main interest had shifted toward combining Demonic Statue tissue, Godzilla genetics, and machinery. He harvested tissue from young Godzillas at the sanctuary, unaware that Gen’ichi was allowing the research to proceed so he could eventually claim its results 354 355 356.

His first Mechagodzilla was defeated by Sasuke’s summoned Sub-Body Godzilla. Giant Turtle Godzilla crushed Orochimaru, and Gen’ichi captured his departing soul. Nevertheless, soul fragments in other Heaven’s Curse Marks remained available for resurrection. Orochimaru later appeared with a new, hundred-meter Mechanical Godzilla, which Urashiki destroyed 367 369 392 393.

Madara and the Ghidorah ritual

Black Zetsu approached Orochimaru to reanimate Madara. Orochimaru accepted while planning to control Madara and acquire Black Zetsu’s Rinnegan, then began refining Impure World Reincarnation beyond its existing control limits. Madara’s eventual summoning made Orochimaru a priority target for both Konoha and Akatsuki 408 455.

During the Fourth Great Ninja War, Orochimaru preferred to remain hidden and exploit the fighting rather than confront its strongest participants. By this period, he knew that Gen’ichi and Hitomi were the same person and suspected that even Gen’ichi’s sealing had not ended his plans 500 512.

Orochimaru protected himself from Infinite Tsukuyomi inside a barrier and prepared a summoning scheme involving the reanimated White Snake Sage. Although the Sage warned that another death could collapse his fragmented soul, he proceeded. Ghidorah crossed the universe barrier through the ritual and transformed his ruined Orochi body; one of its independent heads then consumed the White Snake Sage’s chakra and soul 534 535 538.

Appearance

  • Serpentine eyes: Explicitly described as having snake-like pupils 500.
  • Mutable human body: Can stretch his body and limbs over ten meters, split into small snakes, and emerge from discarded flesh 344 367.
  • White Scale Snake: His transformed main body is also rendered “White Phosphorus Snake” in the supplied passages 133 134 318.
  • Unstable post-reincarnation face: His appearance changes while his genetic information overwrites a newly acquired host 312.
  • Ghidorah-assisted form: A three-headed creature resembling neither an ordinary snake nor a dragon; Orochimaru half-emerges from its central mouth 538.

Personality

Orochimaru pursues immortality so that he can spend an unlimited lifespan exploring the world’s mysteries. Unknown techniques and biological principles excite him more than the passage of time; even his successful Sharingan-cloning project becomes secondary to research with greater potential against the world’s strongest beings 196 261 355.

His curiosity is inseparable from exploitation. He treats talented children as recruits, experimental assets, or future vessels, and rewards susceptible followers with dangerous modifications. His fixation on exceptional bodies extends from Ichie’s Mangekyō Sharingan to Gen’ichi, Shin, Sasuke, and Ōtsutsuki remains 126 131 233 318 366 465.

Despite his willingness to take extreme risks, he is not indiscriminately reckless. He restrains Shin’s impulsiveness, retreats when powerful opponents threaten his objectives, and avoids summoning individuals he cannot reliably control. His repeated defeats, however, provoke envy toward younger prodigies and increasingly desperate experiments 196 344 367 512 535.

Abilities & Skills

Living Corpse Reincarnation

  • Body possession: Attempts to erase and devour a target’s soul before occupying their body 131.
  • Genetic overwrite: Modifies the acquired body’s information while retaining access to its inherent Bloodline Limit 158 312.
  • Immortality objective: Developed secretly with Root’s resources without informing Danzo 131 134.
  • Limits: Cannot immediately possess another vessel after a recent reincarnation. Poor hosts and fragmented soul reserves reduce his strength; Godzilla also directly counters his possession attempt 131 318.

Curse Marks and Resurrection

  • Stored soul fragments: Heaven’s Curse Marks preserve pieces of his soul as resurrection contingencies 176 369.
  • Power enhancement: Curse Mark State One increases bearers’ combat power; State Two is termed “Sage Transformation” and requires greater aptitude 175.
  • Distributed survival: Killing his current body does not eliminate fragments carried by other people 178 369.
  • Limits: Repeated returns severely fragment his soul. The White Snake Sage eventually warns that another death could cause complete collapse 318 534.

Impure World Reincarnation

  • Reanimated fighters: Summons and controls Danzo, Sasori, Tobirama, Madara, and the White Snake Sage 176 197 344 455 535.
  • Battlefield endurance: Danzo and Sasori regenerate after being killed, allowing Orochimaru to fight through expendable undead forces 208.
  • Research use: Questions Tobirama about Madara’s burial site and plans to revive Kinkaku and Ginkaku to locate the remaining Six Paths Ninja Tools 344 355.
  • Control limits: His early version reliably handles Kage-level fighters but cannot safely control stronger individuals. Even Tobirama could exploit a mistake; controlling Madara requires further refinement 344 346 408.
  • Counters: Soul-targeting abilities of the Six Paths of Pain threaten the technique’s usual regeneration advantage 208.

Snake Techniques and Substitution

  • Summoning: Calls giant snakes, Manda, and Tashin Hime; uses snakes to intercept attacks, restrain enemies, and retrieve material 131 196 260 344.
  • Ten Thousand Snakes Array: Overwhelms pursuing Mist shinobi, killing nearly twenty in one use 316.
  • Great Snake Substitution: Sheds bodies to escape otherwise lethal attacks 131 176 367.
  • Radiation protection: Layers Snake Stream Substitution shells to enter the radioactive Godzilla Sanctuary 355.
  • Limits: Once prepared substitutes are exhausted, growing replacements requires substantial chakra and cellular stimulation. Manda’s death also deprives him of a major combat summon 131 318 344.

Advanced Combat Ninjutsu

  • S-rank offense: Repeatedly unleashes powerful S-rank ninjutsu against Chiyo 43.
  • Rashōmon: His summoned defensive gate blocks Gen’ichi’s White Heat Ray 133.
  • Barrier techniques: Attempts to restrain Gen’ichi and later shelters from Infinite Tsukuyomi 176 534.
  • Eight-Headed Serpent Cannon: Uses Sage Chakra to enhance his strongest documented attack at that stage; Gen’ichi counters it with Spiral Atomic Breath 260.
  • Genjutsu resistance: Immediately breaks Sasuke’s immature Three-Tomoe Sharingan genjutsu 367.

Scientific Research and Biological Engineering

  • Human modification: Studies Kekkei Genkai, develops experimental drugs, and supplies Mizuki with part of a Human Body Modification Secret Technique 11 233.
  • Transplantation: Implants a One-Tomoe Sharingan into Shin and prepares Shin’s original arm with ten Sharingan for Danzo 196 316.
  • Cloning: Helps perfect technology capable of producing genuine Sharingan after two years of collaboration with Shin 354 355.
  • Hybrid weapons: Combines Godzilla tissue with Demonic Statue or Divine Tree material to create Mechanical Godzilla 355 356 392.
  • Research priorities: Recognizes that ordinary cloned Sharingan alone cannot change the balance against the Shinobi World’s strongest fighters 355.

Ghidorah-Assisted Body

  • Cross-universe summoning: Brings an entity from another universe across the universe barrier through a ritual 538.
  • Reconstruction: Ghidorah’s intervention reunites the flesh of his destroyed Orochi body and produces a three-headed form 538.
  • Independent powers: One head releases Golden Lightning and consumes the White Snake Sage’s chakra and soul 538.
  • Control limitation: The other two heads possess their own intentions rather than sharing Orochimaru’s thoughts 538.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Kusanagi Swords — Extendable blades, including the Blade of the Void attack used to pierce Shin’s chest. One sword is taken by Ichie; Orochimaru retains another and swallows it to prevent Shin from controlling it 134 318 319.
  • Human skin mask — Conceals his identity while he poses as a Sound jonin at Hoshigakure 196.
  • Cloning scrolls and laboratory equipment — Used for the Sharingan project and his separate biological-weapon research 335 355.
  • Demonic Statue fragments — Experimental material with adaptable, plant-like characteristics that he suspects are connected to Hashirama’s Wood Release 355.
  • Godzilla tissue — Harvested from young sanctuary Godzillas for cultivation and hybrid-weapon development 355 356.
  • Mechagodzilla — His initial hybrid weapon can use Atomic Breath but is physically outmatched by Sub-Body Godzilla 367.
  • New-model Mechanical Godzilla — A hundred-meter successor combining Godzilla and Divine Tree material; destroyed during his confrontation with Urashiki 392 393.

Relationships

  • Hiruzen Sarutobi — Teacher who regards him as his most outstanding disciple; their ideological separation leaves Hiruzen conflicted after his reported death 7 115 133.
  • Nawaki — Former disciple whose death precedes Orochimaru’s increasingly cold disposition 7.
  • Anko — Disciple, experimental subject, and eventual resurrection contingency. She refuses to defect with him, but receives his Heaven’s Cursed Seal 11 126 176.
  • Gen’ichi Shiranui / Genitsu — Coveted vessel, recurring opponent, and occasional proposed partner. Gen’ichi repeatedly defeats him, captures his soul, and secretly permits research he intends to appropriate 131 232 356 367.
  • Ichie Uchiha / Kazue — Mangekyō-bearing target who repels his attack and acquires one of his Kusanagi Swords 128 134 319.
  • Danzo Shimura — Secret research associate whose resources support Living Corpse Reincarnation; later a reanimated fighter under Orochimaru’s control 131 176 208.
  • Jiraiya and Tsunade — Fellow Sannin. Jiraiya pursues his defection and later reluctantly fights alongside him; Tsunade angrily confronts Gen’ichi over his reported death 128 133 208.
  • Shin — Former subordinate and test subject turned hostile rival and research partner. Their lethal confrontation does not prevent later collaboration on Sharingan cloning 196 316 318 335 355.
  • Jūgo and Guren — Subordinates entrusted with his base and village, though he regards both as useful but flawed assets 196 355.
  • Sasuke Uchiha — Desired Uchiha vessel and opponent at the Godzilla Sanctuary; Sasuke’s summon defeats his first Mechagodzilla 232 366 367.
  • Pain / Nagato — Personally recruits him into Akatsuki and repels his attempt to steal the Rinnegan. Orochimaru later leaves the organization 316 318.
  • Black Zetsu — Distrustful collaborator in Madara’s reanimation; Orochimaru covets its stolen Rinnegan 408 500.
  • White Snake Sage — Former head of Ryūchi Cave, later reanimated as Orochimaru’s unwilling tool; consumed by a head of the Ghidorah-assisted body 312 535 538.
  • Ghidorah — Cross-universe entity whose intervention grants his new body, without giving him unified control over all three heads 538.
