He-El maneuvered to gather the Infinity Stones while the Avengers and their allies prepared for Thanos’s invasion. After Earth’s forces fought off Thanos’s attack, He-El faced him with Hela at his side, and Thor realized she had abandoned Asgard.

  • Nick Fury’s letters warned the Avengers that He-El had killed him and was pursuing the Infinity Stones, so they joined forces with Stephen Strange, Thor, and Loki to oppose him.

Arc 41Fury’s Warning and Hela’s Return

Nick Fury’s final letters led the Avengers to join forces with Thor, Loki, and Stephen Strange against He-El while He-El steered them toward the Infinity Stones. As the group departed for Xandar and the Power Stone, Hela appeared at He-El’s presidential office and offered him an alliance.

  • Tony Stark, Natasha Romanoff, Clint Barton, Steve Rogers, and Bruce Banner received Nick Fury’s letters warning them that He-El had killed him and was pursuing the Infinity Stones.
  • Stephen Strange brought Wanda Maximoff and Pietro Maximoff to Asgard, where he exposed Loki disguised as Odin and learned that the real Odin had vanished with Gungnir.
  • He-El ordered the Avengers to promote Earth as a Nine Realms trade hub and secretly planned to lure the psychic-wave sender into attacking.
  • The Avengers met in Asgard, compared Fury’s warnings, and joined Stephen Strange, Thor, Loki, Wanda, and Pietro in opposing He-El.

Arc 42The Fall of Xandar

Thanos attacked and devastated Xandar to claim the Power Stone, but the Avengers and Guardians nearly removed his Infinity Gauntlet before Ebony Maw intervened and Thor arrived. After Thanos escaped and turned toward Asgard, the heroes regrouped while Hela advanced on the palace and Thor confronted her.

  • Hela offered to marry He-El and share his throne, but he told her she would have to earn the chance to stand beside him.
  • The Guardians learned Gamora had gone with Thanos, followed a shifted Nova Corps distress signal, and headed for Xandar.
  • Thanos destroyed Xandar’s defenses and led his forces in a massacre to seize the Power Stone.
  • The Avengers and Guardians fought Thanos on Xandar, and Mantis briefly helped them restrain him as they tried to remove his Infinity Gauntlet.

Arc 43The Stones and the Coming War

He-El took the Mind Stone from Asgard and revealed that he had anticipated the heroes’ moves while preparing for Thanos. As Earth’s leaders mobilized against an alien invasion, General Ross accepted He-El’s offer to become president and backed his plans despite Steve Rogers’s warning.

  • Hela defeated Thor in a public duel and claimed Asgard’s throne, while Stephen Strange and Loki rushed to contain Wanda Maximoff’s Chaos Magic.
  • He-El seized the Mind Stone through the Space Bridge and arrived in Asgard, where he overpowered the others and confronted Hela about working together.
  • He-El confirmed that Thanos held the Space Stone and said he would wait to take the Time Stone until he had gathered five Infinity Stones, then left Asgard as Stephen Strange evacuated the others.

Earth’s forces and allies fought Thanos’s invasion, but his Star Annihilator Cannon threatened to destroy the presidential office until Wanda Maximoff and then He-El stopped it. As He-El faced Thanos, Hela arrived at his side, and Thor realized she had abandoned Asgard.

  • Tony Stark learned Pepper Potts was pregnant, then dismantled the electronic components of his Iron Man Armors to prepare a suit He-El could not control.
  • Hank Pym developed stable Pym Particles and agreed to help Tony Stark, while Hope van Dyne insisted on joining the mission to rescue her mother.
