Background / History
Bai Jin was an ordinary person in his previous life before transmigrating into the Great Desolation and attaining enlightenment as an Azure White Crane. Upon learning that he had become an Outer Sect Disciple of Sect Master Tongtian, he became preoccupied with surviving the dangerous future he anticipated for Tongtian’s lineage. He drafted a “Great Desolation Self-Salvation Guide” centered on winning the favor of his Martial Uncles Taishang and Yuanshi. 2
His approach succeeds immediately: Taishang gives him the Taiji Diagram, Yuanshi lends him the Pangu Banner, and Tongtian’s earlier gift of four Qing Tian Swords becomes the basis of his sword arts. While leaving Mount Kunlun, Bai Jin receives insight into the sword that opened heaven and earth. 2 3
During his journey through Mount Wuyi and the East Sea, Bai Jin obtains the Treasure Dropping Coin, befriends Ao Guang, acquires the Big Red Robe Mother Tree, and takes custody of the Nine Dragon Agarwood Carriage. He uses the Heaven-Opening Sword and Taiji Diagram to survive an ambush by the Bifang Demon God, leaving the demon severely wounded. 5 6 11 12
Upon returning to Mount Kunlun, Bai Jin presents the Big Red Robe Mother Tree to Taishang, the Nine Dragon Agarwood Carriage to Yuanshi, and the Kui Ox to Tongtian. His gifts strengthen his standing with the Three Pure Ones and earn him recognition among their disciples. 15 16
Bai Jin’s debate with the Western disciples establishes his unusual influence. He names their Dao “Zen,” gives Mahasthamaprapta and Ksitigarbha verses that lead to enlightenment, and is subsequently appointed Head Outer Sect Disciple by Tongtian. 17 18
At Buzhou Mountain, Bai Jin’s remark that a clay horned wolf would be better “if only it were alive” completes Nuwa’s realization of the Dao of Creation. He witnesses Nuwa’s creation of life and humanity, gains merit through his involvement, and later reaches the Taiyi Golden Immortal realm under Fuxi’s protection. 31 32 34
In the future framing story, Bai Jin has become Dao Ancestor. The Saints entrust the Great Desolation to him before departing into chaos, while he is credited with expelling the outer-realm Heavenly Dao and establishing the Imperial Pass Treaty. 1
Appearance
Bai Jin usually appears as a simple and honest-looking young man, an appearance that often causes others to underestimate him. He can also assume the form of a majestic Azure White Crane. 2 5
- Human form is described as plain, sincere-looking, and unassuming. 2
- True form is an Azure White Crane capable of flying through the clouds. 5
- Commonly carries or summons the four Qing Tian Swords. 5 38
- His outwardly harmless manner contrasts sharply with his ruthless combat decisions and elaborate schemes. 12 40
Personality
Bai Jin is cautious, pragmatic, and intensely concerned with self-preservation. He understands that his aptitude is considered mediocre and compensates through preparation, networking, treasures, and careful use of his elders’ favor. His deference toward Tongtian, Taishang, and Yuanshi is sincere, but he also deliberately cultivates their goodwill. 2 3 19
He is protective of disciples who support him, particularly Shi Ji and Wudang. Shi Ji’s injury provokes him to confront Eastern Emperor Taiyi’s side, while his concern over Duobao’s advice drives him to challenge his senior brother to protect the Three Pure Ones from a failed attempt at sainthood. 27 44 45
Despite his humble image, Bai Jin is shamelessly opportunistic and willing to exploit etiquette, misunderstandings, and an opponent’s expectations. He defeats Ying Lian by attacking during a formal bow, describes the tactic as his swordsmanship, and uses the Treasure Dropping Coin’s dangerous drawback against Duobao. 27 28 40
Abilities & Skills
Sword Dao
Bai Jin’s principal offensive methods derive from Tongtian’s sword teachings, the four Qing Tian Swords, and his realization of the sword that opened heaven and earth.
- Immortal Slaying Myriad Sword Art — Divides the four Qing Tian Swords into torrents of sword qi; Bai Jin used it to kill six Demon Court cultivators at Mount Wuyi. 5
- Heaven-Opening Sword — A devastating single-strike technique born from Bai Jin’s realization at the pond. It killed dozens of demons in one blow and later defeated Ying Lian. 3 12 27
- Limitation: At the Golden Immortal stage, one Heaven-Opening Sword strike drains Bai Jin’s magical power. 12
- Qing Tian Sword — Merges the four Qing Tian Swords into a heavenly sword able to draw upon the power of the surrounding heaven and earth. 44
- Limitation: The Qing Tian Sword places immense pressure on Bai Jin and can severely injure him through backlash if blocked. 44
Taiji Divine Ability
Taishang corrects Bai Jin’s Taiji Boxing over a month of training until it transforms into a divine ability.
- Manifests a Taiji Diagram around Bai Jin. 20
- Combines hardness and softness, motion and stillness, to redirect or disperse force. 20 23
- Bai Jin used the Taiji Diagram to absorb Bifang’s flaming claw and return the attack to its source. 12
- The ability cannot fully overcome a major gap in cultivation; Duobao’s palm technique still overpowers Bai Jin’s defense. 23
Five Elements Evasion Technique
Bai Jin uses the Five Elements Evasion Technique to avoid unnecessary conflicts while traveling through the Great Desolation.
- Allows him to keep distance from hostile tribes and dangerous encounters. 30
- He admits he has not fully mastered it during his confrontation with Duobao. 23
Treasure Dropping Coin
An Innate Spiritual Treasure Bai Jin acquired from the Innate Undying Space at Mount Wuyi.
- Can forcibly collect magic treasures below its grade. 26
- Bai Jin used it to help Duobao seize seven Immortal Slaying Flying Daggers. 26
- It is a mid-grade Innate Spiritual Treasure. 26
- Its use consumes the user’s luck; excessive use causes remaining luck to become chaotic and brings misfortune. 28 29
- Bai Jin retains it after convincing Tongtian that he can control its risks. 29
Merit Refinement
After gaining merit through Nuwa’s attainment of sainthood, Bai Jin refines part of it through the Treasure Dropping Coin.
- Creates a Xuanhuang-colored Merit Coin rather than a conventional Merit Golden Wheel. 43
- The Merit Coin is denser than ordinary merit clouds and can be stored within Bai Jin’s spiritual platform. 43
- Its design bears the image and name of Zixiao Palace. 43
