Nature

The Mirror World is a dark, illusory realm accessed through mirrors and connected by Mirror Tunnels. Though it overlaps with reality, it follows irregular rules of direction and distance; only those familiar with it can navigate and fight there effectively 847 980.

Angel ultimately concludes that it is essentially part of the Spirit World. As a result, control over the Spirit World can interfere with the Mirror World's operation, while the Mirror World can in turn affect the Spirit World 928.

• Ordinary mirrors, sea surfaces, and other reflective media can form entrances or passages into the realm 735 836.
• Reality and the Mirror World may appear separated by a reflective boundary, such as the sea surface around the Fountain of Youth 836.

Mirror Tunnels

Witches use Mirror Tunnels to move through the Mirror World and emerge from distant reflective surfaces. Angel uses them for covert travel, pursuit, escape, and replacing distant Mirror Substitutes 599 655 735.

• Sea routes can become broad but unstable Mirror World passages; Angel must use divination to avoid areas overlapping too closely with reality or the Spirit World 735.
• A Witch with sufficient mastery can exchange places with a Substitute through Mirror Tunnels over great distances 847.
• At higher levels, travel through the realm can become nearly instantaneous across the world 1293.
• The Witch Church headquarters is housed in a special Mirror World that conventional means cannot access; only Witches of Despair Sequence or above can enter 1350.

Restrictions on Entry

Mirror World travel is not universally reliable. A stronger wielder of mirror authority, specialized Magical Items, or certain sealed areas can block entry and exit 745 1033.

• Sirio Sauron and other Mirror Person-related powers can isolate areas of the Mirror World 667 745.
• Angel, even as a Calamity Witch, cannot break through the seal surrounding one special Mirror World and its mist-shrouded tower 1207.

Mirror People

Mirror People are independent mirrored counterparts that exist within the Mirror World. Many seek to replace their Main Bodies in reality, allowing them to leave the darkness of the Mirror World and experience ordinary life 530 1250.

• Long-term contact with leaked pollution beneath Trier can generate a Mirror Person with independent thoughts 1168.
• Mirror People infiltrated institutions in Trier by replacing their Main Bodies; Angel reported them to the Steam and Eternal Blazing Sun Churches, leading to a major purge 661 1168 1252.
• Most Mirror People differ from their originals through reversed physical traits, such as dominant-hand orientation or heart placement. Deep mirroring can also reverse gender, as with Empress Rosell 1250.

The Great Terror

• Tudor and Qik's experiments with leaked Source Quality powers altered the Mirror World and enabled Mirror People to form for non-Witches 1193.
• Qik feared this Great Terror enough to monitor female Witches' promotions and persecute Witches who advanced from female bodies 1194 1250.
• During Ilian Sauron's promotion to Ageless, the Great Terror appeared but rejected her Mirror Person and turned its attention toward Calamity City instead 1257 1258.

Authority and Applications

Spatial Flipping and Isolation

A high-level Witch can flip people, objects, and spaces into the Mirror World, forcing opponents into an environment where the Witch has the advantage 847 980.

• Angel can flip a single target or all objects within a radius of up to 500 meters, though the latter nearly exhausts her Spirituality 847.
• As a Calamity Witch, she can pull distant targets into the Mirror World through Mirror Tunnels; weaker targets may not realize they have been moved until it is too late 980.
• At the pinnacle of this authority, a Witch can hide an entire city in the Mirror World or drag a city into it for destruction 980.
• Angel uses this ability to trap enemies who cannot escape through ordinary methods, including the Miracle Worker Cottar 1104.

Mirror Substitutes

Mirror Substitutes allow Witches to avoid fatal attacks by exchanging themselves with prepared mirrors. They are one reason Witches are exceptionally difficult to kill 153 530.

• A usable Substitute normally requires a mirror large enough to reflect the user's entire body, or a blood-linked small mirror 153.
• Mirrors used as Substitutes are expended after activation and cannot be used again 153.
• Advanced Witches can sustain multiple, highly realistic Substitutes at once and project them hundreds of kilometers away 847.
• An Ageless Witch may hide her Main Body in the Mirror World while allowing a Substitute to act repeatedly in reality 836.

Global Mirror Authority

After Qik's fall, Angel becomes the ruler of the Mirror World and gains authority over mirrors across the world 1267 1293.

• The destruction of Qik's special Mirror World is followed by the rebirth of the special realm and the space behind mirrors within the Astral World barrier 1267.
• Angel can sense mirrors worldwide, answer calls directed at mirrors, and appear through any reflected area as either herself or a mirror self 1293.
• So long as the Mirror World endures, Angel can reform after her mirror selves are destroyed, granting her effective immortality through the realm 1293.
• Angel can summon her own Mirror Person into reality, enabling direct cooperation outside the Mirror World 1293.

History

Tudor and Qik experimented with the leaked Source Quality powers beneath Trier during or after the Four Emperors War. Their actions changed the special Mirror World, produced Mirror People beyond the Witch pathway, and contributed to the emergence of the Great Terror 1193 1194.

Qik became the former master of the Mirror World, but her condition was complicated by another Original Witch within the deepest special Mirror World. According to Empress Rosell, this second Witch was formed from Qik's divided self, could also control the realm, and sought believers of her own 1250.

Angel's investigation of Mirror People exposed their infiltration of Trier's institutions. Her reports prompted the Orthodox Churches to capture many replacements, temporarily suppressing the organization 661 1168 1252.

During the battle against Qik, Angel discovers that Qik can resurrect directly through the Mirror World rather than relying on an ordinary Substitute. Qik states that all Mirror Worlds must be destroyed to kill her permanently 1266. Angel, her Mirror Person, Klein, and allied powers subsequently destroy Qik's body and the relevant Mirror World, leaving Qik's Uniqueness and Doomsday Characteristics behind 1266.

Angel later inherits the Witch Uniqueness and the authority of Master of the Mirror World, rebuilding the realm under her own control 1267 1293.
