Background / History

Hua Xuening initially served Long Aotian with absolute, childlike loyalty. Although she doubted the order to assassinate Lu Chengwen—whom Long Aotian had sworn brotherhood with—she accepted it because she believed her Young Master understood matters she could not. She infiltrated Lu's hotel as a trained assassin, intending to carry out the mission. 91

Her Spiritual Sense was sealed during this period, contributing to her dazed and seemingly simple-minded behavior despite her exceptional martial talent. Those familiar with her abilities recognize that her profound swordsmanship is incompatible with genuine incompetence. 91 124

After Long Aotian was injured, Xuening became angry and frustrated at her inability to help him. Her exceptional talent and sealed Spiritual Sense were recognized even by the Strategist, who predicted that releasing the seal could make her abilities exceed ordinary expectations. 124

Long Aotian later reassigned her as Lu Chengwen's maidservant and personal guard. The order devastated her; she interpreted it as abandonment, yet swore to protect and obey Lu with the same devotion she had shown Long Aotian. The assignment also served Long Aotian's interest in monitoring Lu Chengwen. 143 144 159

After formally accepting Lu's orders, Xuening adopted the roles of maid and guard, even declaring that she would attack Long Aotian if he tried to harm Lu. Lu consequently imposed a rule forbidding her from drawing her sword indiscriminately inside the household. 166

Her assignment repeatedly placed her between the two men. She defended Lu against assassins and hostile martial artists, while initially insisting that her ultimate loyalty remained with Long Aotian. 145 151 193 Over time, Lu's protection, praise, and willingness to risk his own future to save her caused her to question the life of unquestioning service she had been taught to accept. 188 195 230

When Lu and Xu Xuejiao helped her recover from her injuries, Xuening reassessed the situation and apologized to Lu. This demonstrated that, beneath her literal and childlike manner, she could reconsider her actions when presented with another perspective. 117

Her Spiritual Sense was eventually restored, allowing her to reflect more clearly on whether she could live for herself rather than remain someone's vassal or servant. 188

Appearance

Hua Xuening is a tall, fair-skinned young woman with a clear, heroic presence that contrasts with her innocent manner. In battle, her sharp eyes, high ponytail, and sword-bearing stance give her a strikingly imposing appearance; in daily life, she favors simple, practical clothing despite being given designer goods. 193 430 1745

  • Tall and long-limbed, with a notably athletic build. 146 802
  • Usually wears her hair in a high ponytail. 193 1745
  • Has bright, sharp eyes and an energetic, martial bearing. 193 428
  • Can appear like a polished professional in black stockings and high heels, but prefers casual tops, jeans, sneakers, and a backpack. 298 430
  • Her beauty, height, and heroic bearing frequently attract attention, even when she is dressed plainly. 428 431

Personality

Xuening is straightforward, emotionally sensitive, and intensely loyal. She often voices exactly what she thinks, even when it is embarrassing or socially inappropriate, and her honesty makes her easy to read and manipulate. 166 1028 Her apparent simplicity should not be mistaken for a lack of judgment: she can recognize genuine kindness, question the rigid worldview she was raised with, and reach conclusions that surprise even her fellow disciples. 230

She is deeply attached to the people she considers family. Long Aotian's reassignment wounded her because she viewed it as rejection, while Chen Mengyun's maternal kindness quickly earned Xuening's wholehearted affection. 143 603 Her devotion to Lu Chengwen becomes a defining trait; she is willing to place herself in danger for him and promises that she would die before him if necessary. 195 712

Xuening dislikes insincerity and excessive materialism. A lavish shopping spree leaves her confused and distressed by the attendants' artificial enthusiasm, yet she is delighted by small financial gains because she wants to save money for Lu in case he ever needs it. 217 505 Though usually incapable of deception, she later learns to lie convincingly when attempting to influence Zhuge Xiaohua. 561 683

She remains innocent about romance and social manipulation, often interpreting situations literally and openly objecting when she believes another woman is “cutting in line” to approach Lu. Her blunt possessiveness is a recurring source of embarrassment for Lu and the other women in his household. 1029 1074

Although complicated social maneuvering often overwhelms her, Xuening continues to learn from Lu's explanations of hierarchy, competition, and self-interest. Even when confronted with cynical interpretations of Zhao Gang's loyalty, she ultimately judges him by his everyday kindness and chooses not to treat him as an enemy. 2239

She gradually absorbs practical knowledge from Qi Meishao and Jiang Shihan, becoming capable of recognizing basic investment schemes and power plays. Her understanding remains direct rather than subtle, but her ability to analyze situations improves over time. 604 1963

Xuening is especially spoiled and outspoken around her master, Hun Tiangang. She sulks when she feels abandoned, openly scolds the elders, and expects affection and indulgence from him. 1862

Abilities & Skills

Swordsmanship and Assassination

Xuening is a top-tier assassination expert who combines swordsmanship with decisive close-quarters combat. 91

  • Uses a long sword to intercept arrows and shield Lu Chengwen from ranged attacks. 193
  • Can draw or partially draw her sword quickly enough to deflect poison darts and dense barrages of hidden weapons. 144
  • Overwhelms opponents through rapid, shifting sword techniques; A Hu is struck four times before he can properly respond. 233
  • Can defeat Zhuge Xiaohua in close combat, though Xiaohua remains more dangerous at long range and in favorable terrain. 193
  • Uses unconventional movements, including releasing and redirecting her sword during combat, to attack from unexpected angles. 194
  • Fights as a direct assassin rather than a support-type combatant. 245
  • Her swordsmanship is sufficiently refined that observers regard it as incompatible with genuine foolishness. 124 151
  • Her natural mobility is compromised when she must carry or protect an injured ally, but she will still force a path through enemy lines to extract them. 2453

Swift Lightning Power

Xuening is the Inheritor of Swift Lightning Power, a hereditary martial ability associated with extraordinary speed. 781 1862

  • Moves quickly enough to appear as an afterimage and evade interception. 571
  • Can close distance before opponents can react, making retreating enemies especially vulnerable. 2106
  • Uses her speed both to protect Lu Chengwen and to break hostile formations. 193 2106
  • Her mobility and reflexes allow her to transition rapidly between offense and defense. 233 571
  • At comparable realms, Swift Lightning allows her to overwhelm opponents before they can complete a single technique. 233
  • Her speed continues to improve under pressure, and she becomes even faster during later confrontations with Sky Net experts. 346 571
  • The ability cannot fully overcome a vast disparity in cultivation; Liu Bo defeats her after using his full power. 872

Lightness Skill and Stealth

Xuening is proficient in qinggong and infiltration techniques. 91 603

  • Reaches targets by rope descent and rooftop infiltration. 91
  • Can scale buildings and travel through difficult terrain with ease. 245 603

  • Can fight from the roof of a moving vehicle, using her lightness skill to evade attacks and deflect hidden weapons. 1867
  • Can enter or leave buildings through windows and move across rooftops with little warning. 603 1745
  • Her lightness skill allows her to keep pace with Lu Chengwen during mountain pursuits and rescue operations. 1745

Acupoint Sealing

Xuening can disable opponents without killing them by sealing their acupoints.

  • Restrains Qi Meishao by sealing multiple acupoints, leaving her unable to move or call out. 245
  • Uses nonlethal restraint when she believes an ally must be temporarily removed from a conflict. 245

Spiritual Sense

Xuening has demonstrated the ability to extend and withdraw her spiritual sense.

  • Eavesdrops on Lu Chengwen from another room, then withdraws her spiritual sense when embarrassed by what she hears. 167
  • Her Spiritual Sense was previously sealed, impairing her clarity and contributing to the childish demeanor she displayed early in the story. 91 124
  • The seal was later removed, enabling her to think more independently and question her former identity as a servant. 188

Combat Protection

Xuening is particularly effective as a close-range protector.

  • Instinctively places herself between Lu Chengwen and incoming attacks, often reacting before he can perceive the danger. 143 193
  • Can fight while shielding another person from arrows, hidden weapons, or pursuing martial artists. 193 346
  • Her coordination with Zhuge Xiaohua allows them to defend a moving vehicle against multiple Anti-Four Gates attackers. 1867 1868
  • Her combat focus becomes especially dangerous when Lu Chengwen or one of her sisters is threatened. 2293

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Long sword — Her primary weapon for assassination, defense, and high-speed close combat. 145 193
  • Myriad Stars Armor — Armor that resonates with her pure true qi, disperses incoming force, and greatly strengthens her defense. Its compatibility with her breathing and energy allows her to withstand strikes that would otherwise injure her severely. 570
  • Meteorite — A stone she felt personally connected to and later gave Lu Chengwen as a keepsake. 229
  • Healing medicine — Carries medicine to treat Lu Chengwen's injuries during combat and flight. 194

Relationships

  • Lu Chengwen — Her assigned master, personal guard target, and later boyfriend. She chooses to remain with him after he proves willing to sacrifice the Meteorite True Essence for her freedom. Lu's protection, praise, and willingness to sacrifice his cultivation for her are central to her attachment to him. 143 195 222 229 238 505
  • Long Aotian — Her former Young Master. Xuening once obeyed him without question, but his treatment of her and his willingness to trade her away permanently fractures that loyalty. She nevertheless continues to meet him during undercover missions and retains complicated feelings toward him. 91 143 238 430
  • Zhuge Xiaohua — Fellow disciple and sister figure. Xiaohua is often frustrated by Xuening's gullibility, but the two protect each other and confide in one another. Xuening prioritizes Xiaohua's safety even when doing so places her at a severe tactical disadvantage. 151 195 688 2453
  • Luo Shiyin — Fellow disciple and older-sister figure. Their conflict over Long Aotian and Lu Chengwen forces Xuening to articulate her own beliefs about loyalty and heroism. 219 230

  • Xu Xuejiao — Lu Chengwen's medical ally and one of the women associated with his household. Xuejiao treats Xuening's wounds after the battle with Zhuge Xiaohua, while Xuening recognizes her as clever and capable even when she is jealous of her closeness to Lu. 197 219 428
  • Hun Tiangang — Her master. Xuening is openly spoiled around him, and their master-disciple bond is treated affectionately by the elders. 1862
  • Jiang Family — Xuening's true identity and continuing loyalty to the Jiang Family become a source of guilt and conflict with Lu Chengwen. She later accompanies Lu into the Jiang family's social sphere and reacts angrily to its attempt to claim him as a son-in-law. 1365 1990
  • Jiang Shihan — A senior figure whom Xuening recognizes warmly and treats as an ally. Their familiarity helps reveal that Xuening's apparently low social status conceals powerful connections. 431 432
  • Zhao Gang — Lu Chengwen's chief subordinate. Though Lu explains Zhao Gang's competitive motives to her, Xuening continues to value his politeness, gifts, and help with daily matters. 2239
  • Huo Wendong — An occasional opponent and transactional contact. Xuening distrusts him personally but is willing to sell him information when she believes the payment will help Lu or build her savings. 561
  • The Five Elders — Senior martial figures who recognize her as the Inheritor of Swift Lightning Power and enjoy teasing her for her innocence and outspoken behavior. 1862

Story Role / Major Arcs

Choosing Lu Chengwen

After being abandoned by Long Aotian, Xuening begins to see Lu Chengwen as someone who values her life and feelings rather than merely using her obedience. She ultimately promises to follow him forever and gives him her savings and a cherished meteorite before believing she must leave. 215 229

Lu secures her freedom from Long Aotian by exchanging the Meteorite True Essence for her. Xuening chooses Lu of her own will, regarding herself as free and as someone who belongs with him. 238

Lu later arranges an elaborate birthday evening for Xuening in the villa's attic and confesses that he wants her to remain by his side forever. The gesture overwhelms her and confirms the depth of her feelings for him. 222

Undercover Conflict

Despite her attachment to Lu, Xuening later meets Long Aotian to discuss undercover work and worries that Qi Meishao may expose her secrets. Her undercover role requires her to maintain contact with Long while concealing her divided loyalties from Lu. 430

Her divided loyalties become more severe after the revelation of her true identity and her continuing loyalty to the Jiang Family. 1365 She continues to struggle between inherited obligations and her chosen place in Lu's household.

Growth as Lu Chengwen's Protector

Xuening advances from the Upper Four Gates to the Heavenly Four Gates and becomes one of Lu's most formidable protectors. 217 712 During later battles, her speed and swordsmanship make her a battlefield-breaking force; enemies scatter wherever she charges. 2106

She also serves as Chen Mengyun's bodyguard, holding a Sect Master at swordpoint and frightening him with her speed. 2093 Her protective role extends beyond Lu: she is willing to guard Mengyun, Xiaohua, Meishao, and other members of the household even when doing so places her at risk.

When Lu plans to disperse his strongest allies before confronting the Jiang Family, Xuening refuses to leave him. She states that she is not afraid of dying in battle and only regrets that she has not yet become smart enough to be more useful to him. 1416

Anti-Four Gates Revelation

During an ambush against Lu Chengwen, Zhuge Xiaohua, and herself, Xuening reveals her affiliation with the Anti-Four Gates, shocking Lu and placing further strain on their trust. 1867

She and Xiaohua subsequently continue to operate as a coordinated protective pair amid wider factional conflicts. While defending Lu's vehicle, the two reveal their Anti-Four Gates status through their synchronized combat and lightness skills. 1867 1868

When Xiaohua is seriously injured during the Battle of Awakening, Xuening abandons the advantages of her mobile assassination style to rescue her from the encirclement. 2293 2453

Special Missions and Practical Growth

Lu increasingly entrusts Xuening with missions outside direct combat because her honesty makes her appear harmless and her martial ability allows her to escape danger. He assigns her to place a secret thirty-million bet on Xiong Jian Sect, but her lack of understanding of the betting strategy exposes her connection to him and prevents the wager. 995

She later becomes involved in interrogations and investigations because Lu instructs her to tell the truth. Her literal answers reveal sensitive information about prisoners, household relationships, and Lu's romantic life, although she remains convinced that she is merely following orders. 1029

Xuening gradually becomes more capable of recognizing schemes. She understands basic financial deception, learns to manipulate Xiaohua with convincing lies, and begins to apply Lu's lessons about business and power. 683 1963

Compassion Beyond the Household

Xuening helps an injured and pursued Ancient Martial Artist by bringing him supplies and providing refuge, despite having no apparent personal benefit from doing so. Her kindness causes the man to develop an interest in her, prompting Lu to react with jealousy and suspicion. 1745

This episode reinforces that her compassion is genuine rather than merely an extension of obedience. She helps people because she believes doing so is right, even when Lu warns her that others may exploit her innocence. 1745
