Background / History

Heckle was a burly bounty hunter from West Blue who sought admission to Baroque Works. Before being formally assessed, he defeated Mr. 8 and Monday while claiming to have held back. Robin assigned him the codename Mr. 5 after he survived Xia Qiu's land-based charge, though the encounter left him badly injured. 112

After completing several missions, Heckle rose to Mr. 4. Zala then promoted him and Miss Christmas to the Mr. 3 position, assigning them to protect Baroque Works' casino interests in Alabasta. At Mr. 0's direction, he was given the Kilogram Fruit, greatly expanding his combat potential. 135

Heckle trained extensively to develop the fruit's weight-changing applications, repeatedly sparring with Xia Qiu and refining a mobile fighting style built around rapid changes in mass. Although he remained unable to defeat Xia Qiu, his strength rose to approximately Marine Colonel level. 137

Xia Qiu later revealed himself as the President of Baroque Works and appointed Heckle as his partner and the organization's Vice President. Heckle accepted the role, gaining responsibility for liaising with others in the President's place. 159 160
