Background

The Witch Clan rose as one of Honghuang's foremost races after the Dragon, Phoenix, and Kirin clans receded from prominence. Its pinnacle combatants are the Twelve Ancestral Witches, all born from Pangu's Essence Blood. Though they are not skilled in Daoist arts, their bloodline grants them physical bodies regarded as unmatched across Honghuang. 9

The clan is centered around Buzhou Mountain, where its tribes maintain a rugged, hunting-based way of life. Its members cultivate their physical bodies through miasma, and most ordinary Witches are portrayed as blunt, reckless, and inclined to settle disputes through action rather than deliberation. Dijiang and Houtu are notable exceptions, possessing greater wisdom and restraint despite lacking Primordial Spirits. 39 53

Food and survival are central to the clan's conflict with the Demon Race. Witches hunt flesh-and-blood creatures outside their alliances, while Great Witches can kill hundreds of demons in a hunt; in turn, powerful demons can consume entire small Witch tribes. This reciprocal predation turns the two races into entrenched natural enemies. 9

Rise Against the Demon Race

As the Witch and Demon races become Honghuang's dominant powers, their long-standing predation escalates into open warfare. Their Great Witches and Great Demons clash with brutal close-quarters combat, spells, and heavy casualties on both sides. 9 20

After the Twelve Ancestral Witches reach the Quasi-Saint realm through Law Proving, the Witch Clan's military prestige peaks. Its offensives drive the Demon Race back, causing desertions and prompting some demons to believe the clan could unify the Honghuang Continent. 69 88

The emergence of the Immortal Court's Myriad Immortal Formation briefly curbs the Witch Clan's and Demon Race's expansion, as both powers recognize that the Immortal Court could inflict serious losses if cornered. 83

Fuxi's Visit to Buzhou Mountain

Fuxi enters Witch Clan territory to test whether his body can match the Twelve Ancestral Witches. After saving the Six-Eared Macaque from Witch warriors, he defeats Xing Tian, shatters the Great Witch's shield, and draws Gong Gong's attention. 53 56

The Ancestral Witches initially fear that Fuxi has joined the Demon Race, but he clarifies that he only seeks a spar. Fuxi defeats Zhu Rong, Gong Gong, and Xuan Ming, then battles Dijiang for three days and nights to a draw. 59 61 62

Dijiang attempts to recruit Fuxi as an artifact refiner, hoping to equip the clan's Great Witches with spiritual treasures. Fuxi declines and leaves, but the Witch Clan spreads news of their association to strengthen its position against the Demon Race. 63

Exploiting the Demon Race's Setback

Following Fuxi's victory over Demon Race Quasi-Saints, the Witch Clan celebrates its rival's humiliation and launches a surprise attack on the Demon Race's Heavenly Court. The assault captures the lower heavens before the Demon Race can respond effectively. 161

The ensuing Witch-Demon War ends with the Witch Clan capturing the Demon Race's eighth heaven, greatly elevating the clan's prestige. 165

Buzhou Mountain and the Xuantian Sect

Fuxi's decision to establish the Xuantian Sect on Buzhou Mountain alarms the Witch Clan, which considers the mountain part of its ancestral territory. Xuan Ming and others view the move as disrespect, while Zhu Rong and Gong Gong argue that proximity to Fuxi could benefit the clan against the Demon Race. 203

Dijiang ultimately negotiates with Fuxi rather than confronting him. Fuxi resolves the resulting territorial problem by creating a passage to the Xuantian Sect and authorizing the Witch Clan to intercept suspicious travelers who attempt to cross its settlement. 206

Alliance and Rift with the Human Race

The Human Race develops closely alongside the Witch Clan, which is described as an elder-brother figure supporting humanity's growth. The two races eventually hunt the Demon Race together and divide the spoils. 273 293

This relationship fractures when the Twelve Ancestral Witches enter seclusion during the Demon Race's massacre of the Human Race. Great Witches guarding the Ancestral Witch Hall ignore Human envoys, allowing suspicion to spread that the Witch Clan deliberately abandoned its allies. 287 289

The clan rejects the accusations as slander, regarding the suggestion that it plotted against the Human Race as an insult to its straightforward code. Anger over the rumors helps drive its decision to attack the Demon Race. 290 291 293

Later Conflicts

Gong Gong's clashes with Human leaders further strain the Witch Clan's relationship with humanity. He is defeated by Shaohao more than once and eventually contests Zhuanxu for the Human throne, leading Witch Clan forces and allied Human tribes into battle. 323 341 377

As Sage sects rise, the Witch Clan loses much of its former influence beyond its core territory. The clan later expresses dissatisfaction that Heavenly Dao has not produced a Sage for it, while Houtu accepts that Sainthood is determined by Heavenly Dao. 186 406

Zhu Jiuyin subsequently leads Witch Clan forces to the South Heaven Gate, using the Dragon Clan's inability to bring rain as grounds to challenge the Demon Race. 414
