Core Mechanics

Martial Souls and Innate Soul Power

A Soul Master’s potential begins with their Martial Soul. Innate Soul Power is directly proportional to Martial Soul quality: higher innate power generally indicates a stronger Martial Soul. 2

• Weapon Souls generally develop through traits matching their weapon’s nature; sword Martial Souls benefit from sharpness and armor-piercing attributes. 10
• Beast Martial Souls can transform or possess the user’s body, often granting physical changes associated with the beast. 112
• Some Martial Souls possess both weapon and beast-like forms, though this is not unprecedented in Heaven Dou’s records. 10
• A Soul Master’s Martial Soul cannot normally be discarded simply by destroying its rings or refusing to cultivate; possessing a Martial Soul places the individual within the Soul Master framework. 43

Soul Rings

Traditional Soul Master advancement requires Soul Rings. At each ten-rank threshold, accumulated Soul Power cannot break through until a new ring is added. 11

• Soul Rings contain a Soul Beast’s Soul Power, soul, and bloodline power; the Soul Skill gained is therefore closely tied to the beast’s abilities. 348
• A ring compatible with the Martial Soul’s attributes and essence can strengthen its origin, foundation, and even potential for evolution. 5 10

Soul Skills

Soul Skills are abilities normally bestowed by Soul Rings. Most Soul Masters can use these skills without understanding their operating principles. 145

• Soul Power quality affects both the consumption and force of Soul Skills; higher-quality power produces stronger skills at lower cost. 8
• Skills can sometimes inherit multiple effects from a Soul Beast’s abilities, though this is exceptionally rare. 53

Martial Soul Avatar

Soul Cores

Soul Cores are condensed Soul Power crystals formed through extreme compression and spiritual control. Their creation requires precise polishing; a flawed process may damage the Soul Master permanently. 74

• Soul Masters can suppress advancement before the seventh ring and compress Soul Power to attempt a Soul Core at level 69. 73
• A Soul Core greatly improves Soul Power control, recovery, Soul Skill strength, and overall combat ability. 8 74

Classifications

Soul Masters are broadly divided into two categories. 358

• Support Soul Masters — practitioners who enhance, heal, supply, or otherwise assist allies.
  • Food-type — provide consumable support abilities.
  • Enhancement-type — strengthen allies’ attributes or Soul Power.

Self-Condensing Soul Rings

Self-Condensing Soul Rings are an alternative advancement method proposed by Li Chang'an in On the Possibility of Soul Masters Self-Condensing Soul Rings. 347
