Guchuan and Little Ai sat in front of the television, still holding today's newspaper.
The headline on the newspaper was none other than "Sleeping Kogoro."
Kogoro Mouri had previously only been somewhat well-known, but now he had become famous throughout Japan, with reports discussing him appearing one after another.
The muddleheaded detective who had once only been able to scrape by catching cheating spouses could now take on major cases.
Guchuan's program had also caused quite a stir after airing. Countless members of the public cursed him out, saying he was some piece of trash who dared to offer opinions at random.
But with the halo of a prestigious university over his head, quite a few people supported his views as well.
Especially that handsome face of his, which had won him plenty of fangirls among high school and middle school students.
"Hehe, you really made a complete fool of yourself," Little Ai mocked.
Single-handedly lowering Harvard University's standards—Guchuan really was impressive.
"Didn't you see all the comments praising me?"
"But obviously, more people are criticizing you." Little Ai flipped through a magazine, looking for the latest handbags.
"They're just jealous of me. A mediocre person is never envied!" Guchuan said indignantly.
"Also, you're clearly closer to me. You should be taking my side instead of sarcastically mocking me."
Little Ai turned her head away and ignored Guchuan.
Take your side? That's asking a lot, okay.
"Ahahaha, Boss, that brat Guchuan is getting cursed to death." Vodka excitedly came to Gin's side with a newspaper in hand.
Gin glanced at the newspaper and expressionlessly lit a cigarette.
"Japan's renowned and outstanding young scholar Guchuan stated that eating less meat helps protect the environment and promotes economic development."
Every part of that headline was a lie.
Renowned? Scholar? Outstanding? Which of those had anything to do with Guchuan? As for that research he had proposed, it was complete nonsense.
Of everything on there, perhaps only his name was real.
"How is that diplomat doing?" Gin asked.
"Still alive and well. Guchuan doesn't seem to have made a move yet. I think he simply doesn't take the organization's assignments seriously. The organization has never had a member as disobedient as him." Vodka openly badmouthed Guchuan.
Gin: You have one day left for your assignment.
Only after seeing the email on his phone did Guchuan remember that he still had a mission.
He went into his bedroom and called Conan.
"Conan, I found a lead on that organization," Guchuan said in a low voice.
"What!? What lead?"
Conan hid in the Mouri Residence's bathroom. He was somewhat excited, but still lowered his voice so Kogoro Mouri outside would not hear him.
"Takao Tsuji, a diplomat. He may be connected to the organization. Go investigate him. Preferably quickly—the organization may kill him to silence him," Guchuan said.
"Got it, Guchuan. Thank you!" Conan said sincerely.
Conan had also seen what was in the newspaper. Plenty of people were insulting Guchuan. Even under such public pressure, he was still helping me search for leads on the organization. He really... I'm crying.
"No need to thank me. We're brothers. I have other matters to handle, so I can't go with you."
"Okay."
Guchuan hung up and leisurely went back to watching television.
With a good brother like Conan around, won't my performance in the organization shoot right up? For the sake of my dream promotion, Conan, you should get out there more often!
"Why did you change the channel?" Guchuan snatched back the remote.
"I really don't understand why a grown man like you enjoys watching these completely brainless soap operas so much." Little Ai was speechless, unable to understand why Guchuan had such a bizarre hobby.
"Because they're exciting!" Guchuan smiled.
"Don't you think lines like 'Even though I really like you, I've still decided to become your stepmother,' 'Even though I'm your stepmother, that doesn't stop me from flirting with you,' and 'I love her, whether she has a husband or not' are exciting?"
Wouldn't that kind of plot completely crush those little movies with no plot at all that just got straight to the action?
Little Ai cautiously glanced at Guchuan, a little frightened.
She silently scooted toward the other end of the couch, as if Guchuan were something filthy.
Conan hung up and walked out of the bathroom. The moment he opened the door, Kogoro Mouri hit him with a devastating headbutt.
"Uncle Mori, what are you doing!?" Conan said unhappily.
"You little brat, why were you in the bathroom for so long? I'm about to burst!"
"Come on, is it not okay for me to be constipated?" Conan said, clutching his head.
He had just called Ran while using Shinichi's identity, then spoken with Guchuan as well. He really had stayed in the bathroom too long. It would be better to make calls outside from now on.
"Where is that guy Shinichi Kudo?"
A dark-skinned guy barged into the Mouri Detective Agency and asked for Shinichi Kudo the moment he entered.
"This is the Mouri Detective Agency! There's no Shinichi Kudo here!" Kogoro Mouri shouted loudly from the bathroom.
"Huh?"
"Little Ai, don't just sit in the car without moving!"
Guchuan brought Little Ai to an amusement park to ride bumper cars. Little Ai in her car had already been rammed senseless by Guchuan. As an amateur racer, Guchuan was ridiculously smooth at bumper cars.
He vented all the resentment he had built up from being brutally defeated by Little Ai in video games.
"Guchuan, I'm angry!" Little Ai had finally been provoked by Guchuan. She was going to ram him to death.
Beep beep beep~
Guchuan drove the bumper car one-handed and answered the call.
"Guchuan, that diplomat is already dead."
The number was Conan's, but the voice clearly belonged to a male high school student.
"You're... Shinichi Kudo?"
"That's right. I don't know why, but I changed back." Conan sneezed. "Achoo!"
"Is that so? How fascinating."
While Guchuan was distracted, Little Ai slammed into him and sent him spinning several times. Seeing the smug look rise on her face, Guchuan decided to let her learn how cruel the world could be.
"Although that diplomat was killed by his wife, and she had a perfectly valid reason, I still suspect that his wife is connected to the organization," Conan said.
Guchuan had not expected Conan to suddenly become so suspicious.
"Trust your judgment and keep investigating." As a thoughtful friend, Guchuan unconditionally supported Conan.
"Guchuan, you're so kind." Conan was somewhat moved.
Now, Guchuan was the only one who believed in his judgment like this. How could Shinichi Kudo possibly deserve such a considerate friend?
"Conan, you're great too," Guchuan praised sincerely.
Thanks to you helping me complete my quota, I can bring Little Ai to the amusement park. Conan, my good brother forever!
Conan was so moved by Guchuan that he was nearly crying.
"Why do you look like you're on the verge of death?" Heiji Hattori asked disdainfully beside Conan.
"What do you know! I'm moved by the friendship between men!"
