Background / History

Born into the Zenin Family, Maki was treated as a failure because she lacked Cursed Energy, a Cursed Technique, and the ability to see Cursed Spirits. The clan's rigid Cursed Energy supremacy left her with no easy path to becoming a sorcerer. Rather than submit, she resolved to leave the family, prove herself on a larger stage, become its head, and overturn its stagnant hierarchy. 18

Maki trained in martial arts from childhood and served in the Zenin Family's Kurōkō Squad before running away. The squad gave her experience with weapons and close-quarters fighting, but its members—including captain Nobuaki Zenin—also subjected her to mistreatment. 165 257

Her growth was initially restricted by her status as Mai Zenin's twin.
