Background

Bai Tianci was born an Innate Supernatural Talent, a status that allowed him to wield a Supernatural Ability far earlier than ordinary Martial Artists. His natural affinity for Psionic Energy made him view Psionic Ascension as humanity’s only viable defense against alien fleets. 60 120 130

His teacher, Elder Zeng, was a former Psionic User who preserved ancient artifacts behind psionic concealment, including the Heaven’s Will Stele and the Taiping Jing. Bai also had a deceased Senior Disciple Brother whose wish for Bashu Province to triumph in Qingzhou heavily influenced Bai’s competitive ambitions. 135 137 144

Appearance

Bai Tianci is consistently associated with immaculate white clothing and an austere, composed bearing. He is described as cold and stern-faced, often projecting an unnatural chill through his presence. 63 102 173

  • Wears white clothing and simple cloth shoes; even the soles of his shoes remain dry while he stands on water. 63
  • His passive cold aura can frost an entire training hall without activating his Supernatural Ability. 72
  • Wore pure white robes while visiting his Senior Disciple Brother’s grave. 173

Personality

Bai begins as exceptionally proud, ambitious, and convinced that Psionic Ascension is superior to every martial path. He considers Martial Artist realms merely temporary stages before Psionic Ascension and initially dismisses Li Changqing’s Old Techniques as a dead end. 63 117

His arrogance is tied to a sincere sense of duty. Bai believes that, as an Innate Supernatural Talent, he must help humanity survive future alien threats; this conviction drives both his recruitment efforts and his harsh public defense of psionics. 120 130

He is also capable of reassessing his beliefs. Repeated defeats and Li Changqing’s demonstrations of the Old Technique force him to abandon his certainty in psionics, seek a new path, and ultimately declare himself an Old Technique practitioner. 144 151 164

Abilities & Skills

Energy Control

Bai’s innate Supernatural Ability is fundamentally Energy Control, with Thousand Mile Ice Seal as its most visible manifestation. 63 87

  • Freezes large bodies of water almost instantly, including a one-hundred-meter-square, five-meter-thick section of Changhe Lake in summer. 63
  • Creates domains of extreme cold that halt the Long River and restrict opponents’ movement. 75 87
  • Strips energy from incoming attacks, dispersing Li Changqing’s sword qi and turning it into an inert ice sculpture. 87
  • Draws in scattered environmental energy, converts it, and recycles it to sustain himself in prolonged combat. 97
  • Requires immense mental calculation; maintaining a large-scale domain for hours pushes his mind and body toward collapse. 106
  • Excessive use of Subspace power risks assimilation, which can destroy both body and soul. 106

Invincible Fist Intent

Bai cultivates an overwhelmingly confident fist intent that condenses his power into devastating close-range strikes. 86 96

  • His full-power punch can rupture the Long River’s flow and leave a crater several meters wide. 86
  • Combines Blood Essence and mental energy into attacks that approach Upper-Rank power. 86 96
  • Uses the intent to maintain an “invincible” mindset during direct confrontations. 96

Unity of Spirit and Flesh

Bai can merge his Blood Essence and mental energy into a unified combat state. 86

  • Forms a Blood Essence-and-mental-energy domain capable of delaying Li Changqing’s Yin God teleportation. 86
  • Greatly enhances the interaction between his physical power, mental force, and Supernatural Ability. 86

Psionic Resonance

Bai advances toward resonance with Subspace, allowing him to use its power more directly. 72 97

  • Can move through Subspace in battle, creating difficult-to-predict attack angles. 96 97
  • His battle with Li Changqing accelerates his progress in resonating with Subspace. 97
  • Resonance remains dangerous because overreliance on Subspace can lead to assimilation. 106

Old Technique Cultivation

After accepting Li Changqing’s teachings, Bai abandons his previous certainty in Psionic Ascension and begins cultivating the Old Technique. 151 164

  • Requests Li Changqing’s help to sever his innate connection to Subspace. 151
  • Publicly manifests Qi during a broadcast, confirming that an Innate Supernatural Talent can switch cultivation paths. 164

Equipment / Items

  • Heaven’s Will Stele — A psionic item Bai uses as the prize and evaluation tool at his banquet; it tests mental potential through nine illuminated grooves. 64 65
  • Frost Sword — Bai’s personal spirit weapon, offered as the prize for his arena event to lure out the mysterious swordsman. 72
  • Thousand Mile Ice Seal painting — A visualization painting displayed in his training hall while he cultivates. 72

  • Psionic pendant — A pendant bearing the image of his Senior Disciple Brother, worn during his final visit to the grave. 173

Relationships

  • Li Changqing — Initially an unknown genius Bai seeks to recruit; later his principal rival, teammate, and the person whose Old Technique path changes Bai’s convictions. 72 86 151 164
  • Qin Hui — Subordinate and organizer of Bai’s banquet and arena events; Qin Hui carries out Bai’s recruitment orders and addresses him as “Boss.” 63 72
  • Elder Zeng — Bai’s teacher, a former Psionic User and collector of ancient artifacts. 137 144
  • Senior Disciple Brother — Deceased fellow disciple whose final wish was for Bashu Province to win the Qingzhou championship; Bai visits his grave and resolves to follow Li Changqing’s path. 135 173
  • Sun Sheng, Cao Feng, and Yang Zhiming — Bashu geniuses Bai recruits and supports as prospective teammates for major competitions. 65 92
  • Ye Haotian — Meets Bai to deny responsibility for the attack on Li Changqing’s spaceship and seek help changing cultivation paths. 159

Story Role / Major Arcs

Recruitment of Bashu’s Geniuses

Bai first appears at Xichuan Airport, where his aura overwhelms the assembled Youth Cup winners and he invites Sun Sheng to a banquet. 60 He freezes Changhe Lake to establish the banquet venue, intending to gather Bashu Province’s strongest young Martial Artists under his command for the State Competition. 63

At the banquet, Bai presents the Heaven’s Will Stele as both a prize and a test of mental potential. He lights all nine grooves himself, asserting his overwhelming superiority over the guests. 64 65

Pursuit of the Mysterious Swordsman

Li Changqing’s disguised appearance at the banquet disrupts Bai’s plan: the Heaven’s Will Stele is cracked and taken away. Rather than treating the intruder solely as an enemy, Bai becomes determined to recruit the unknown swordsman. 68 72

He creates an arena event and offers his Frost Sword as bait. When Li Changqing controls a sword remotely, defeats Qin Chuan, and escapes beyond Bai’s expected Telekinesis range, Bai recognizes the hidden genius as a threat to his own position. 74 75

Rivalry with Li Changqing

Bai repeatedly challenges Li Changqing’s concealed identity, seeking both a decisive battle and a powerful teammate for Bashu Province. Their duel on the Long River reveals Bai’s Invincible Fist Intent, Unity of Spirit and Flesh, and Energy Control, while Li’s Creation ability prevents Bai’s full-power punch from landing decisively. 86 87

In their later confrontation, Bai and Li clash directly at the threshold of the Upper-Rank realm. Bai acknowledges Li as his sole true opponent, but Li ultimately exploits the weakness in Bai’s environmental energy conversion and defeats him. 96 97 98

Defense of Xichuan

When the Long River threatens Xichuan City, Bai publicly promises that the flood will not cross into the city while he remains standing. 102 He maintains an energy-control barrier and expands the dam with ice, pushing himself toward Subspace assimilation to buy civilians time to evacuate. 105 106

The strain leaves Bai physically devastated, and Li Changqing ultimately ends the flood through the Human King’s Authority. 108

Provincial Competition and Change of Path

Bai publicly challenges Li’s Old Technique claims throughout the Provincial Competition, stubbornly defending psionics because he fears humanity will lose its only escape route from alien destruction. 113 120 He eventually enters the competition himself to defend the psionic faction’s honor. 126

After witnessing the Immortal Path and Li’s ability to manipulate matter and energy, Bai asks whether he can switch to cultivating the Old Technique. 151 He later confirms his conversion before a national audience by manifesting Qi and rejecting the title of Innate Supernatural Talent. 164

Death

Bai visits his Senior Disciple Brother’s grave, speaks proudly of Bashu’s rise as a center of Old Techniques, and resolves to follow Li Changqing as Earth’s hope. 173 Soon afterward, subspace evil spirits seize his soul; Bai is killed, an event that deeply affects Li and contributes to his decision to leave Earth. 173 174

Notable Quotes

“In Bashu Province, there can only be one top genius in this provincial competition.” 82

“I am indeed close to touching the threshold of the upper ranks, but you shouldn't call me an Innate Supernatural Talent. Right now, I am just an ordinary practitioner of the Old Technique.” 164
