Background / History
Tang San reunites with his father, Tang Hao, after years apart. Tang Hao intends to send him to Spirit Hall City for advanced education under Saint Teacher Ratio, prompting Tang San to recognize Ratio’s vast influence 128.
When Tang San seeks Ratio’s help to revive his mother, Ah Yin, he offers his Cultivation Methods in exchange. Ratio agrees, transports Ah Yin directly to his laboratory, and Tang San bows in recognition of Ratio’s power and wisdom 214. Tang Hao later opposes the agreement and physically confronts Tang San, but Tang San remains committed to saving Ah Yin 219.
Ah Yin is revived with the strength of a thousand-year Soul Beast, but Tang Hao prematurely breaks her experimental container, leaving her without memories of Tang Hao or Tang San. Tang San refuses to force her to leave and instead waits for Ratio’s advice 225. When Ah Yin later confirms that she cannot recover her memories unless she seeks them herself, Tang San leaves her a way to find him and departs dejectedly 227.
Appearance
After absorbing the Transformation Technique, Tang San’s body is drastically altered. Though initially horrified, he accepts the transformation as the price of becoming stronger 301.
- Shrinks from nearly 1.8 meters to roughly one meter tall 301.
- Develops green skin, thin arms, and thin legs 301.
- Retains a disproportionately large head and gains larger, brighter eyes 301.
- Loses nearly all of his hair, leaving only sparse strands 301.
- Is later struck twice in the forehead by the Three-Eyed Golden Lion, leaving two prominent swollen bumps 306.
Personality
Tang San is initially principled, family-oriented, and capable of independent judgment. He distrusts Yu Xiaogang’s accusations that Ratio is deceitful, believing instead that Ratio is not as despicable as his teacher claims 216. His determination to revive Ah Yin remains firm even when Tang Hao objects and abuses him 219.
He is also intensely ambitious and sensitive to humiliation. He enters the World’s First Martial Arts Tournament convinced that, at equal Soul Power, his martial arts are comparable to those of a Titled Douluo 238. Defeats, the growing prominence of Ratio’s techniques, and the likely obsolescence of Tang Sect hidden weapons undermine his confidence 246 247.
After entering the Inner World, Tang San embraces power at any cost. He accepts a grotesque transformed body because it improves his aptitude, declaring that strength matters more than appearance 301. Following his acquisition of Ratio’s power, he becomes increasingly ruthless and indifferent toward others, ultimately joining Tang Hao and Yu Xiaogang in a campaign against Ratio and the established order 312 315.
