Background / History
Tang Hao emerged from years of absence to reunite with Tang San outside Shrek Academy. Although he intended to send his son to Spirit Hall City for advanced education under Saint Teacher Ratio's influence, his hidden objective was to learn Tang Xiao's whereabouts after his brother disappeared in Spirit City. He was prepared to force Ratio's cooperation if necessary. 128
Distrusting Ratio's teachings and the prospect of mortals ascending to godhood, Tang Hao infiltrated Pope Mountain during a public lecture. He attempted to destroy the temple during Qian Daoliu's ascent, sacrificing five of his nine soul rings in the attack. Qian Daoliu survived, ascended, and crippled Tang Hao's cultivation in retaliation. 158 160
Afterward, Tang Hao was reduced to an ordinary man. He remained proud and volatile despite his weakness, notably being kicked aside by Liu Erlong after angrily confronting Tang San. 219 By the time Tang San later visited him at the Clear Sky Sect, Tang Hao had lost an arm and a leg, become an alcoholic, and surrendered himself to despair. 270
Appearance
Tang Hao initially returns to Tang San dressed in ragged clothing, with an unkempt beard and the appearance of a long-neglected beggar, though his bearing remains unmistakable. 128
- Wields a massive Clear Sky Hammer. 158
- After losing his cultivation, becomes unshaven, overweight, and frequently reeks of alcohol. 218
- Following the Transformation Technique, develops a green, turtle-shell-like growth on his head and altered facial features. 301 306
- The shell shatters when he receives Ratio's Source of Power. 307
Personality
Tang Hao is fiercely protective of Tang San and initially seeks the best available education for him, even while distrusting Ratio and Spirit Hall. His concern for Tang Xiao likewise drives his infiltration of Pope Mountain. 128 153
His repeated losses harden into resentment. After Ah Yin awakens without recognizing him, Tang Hao refuses to accept responsibility for breaking her container prematurely and instead accuses Ratio of altering her memories. 225 226 His humiliation, crippled cultivation, and damaged standing within the Clear Sky Sect deepen his obsession with making those who disparage him or Tang San “regret” it. 219 270 306
After obtaining a Source of Power, Tang Hao becomes openly tyrannical, violent, and increasingly detached from his former self. He treats overwhelming strength as justification to kill opponents, punish former sectmates, abduct Ah Yin, and demand submission from others. 307 308 309 311
