Shrek City's defenses had now been mostly destroyed and no longer posed much of a threat. The next step was to send soldiers into the city and begin the next phase of the battle.

It was still unrealistic to rely on bombardment to wipe out all resistance within Shrek City. Not all Soul Masters were stationed on the city walls; there were surely quite a few within the city, and they could not simply bombard them directly.

That could result in the deaths of large numbers of innocent civilians. They could bomb some residential buildings near the city walls, where the distance was close and collateral damage was unavoidable. But if they carried out widespread bombardment across the entire city, the implications would be completely different. The military and the Federation Government would have no way to answer to the public.

Even if they won, they would face enormous public pressure afterward. No military higher-up or government official could accept that.

Even now, merely affecting some buildings near the city walls had already caused immense public pressure. If they targeted the entire city, the backlash would be unimaginable.

The Federal Army could only choose the most primitive method of occupation: charge into the city and engage Shrek Academy's resisting forces in small-scale clashes.

This would cost them many soldiers, but there was no other way. It had to be done. All they could do was proceed as cautiously as possible and minimize casualties.
