Background / History
Hun Tiandi fought the injured Xiao Xuan during the Xiao Clan’s downfall. Although Xiao Xuan died, he inflicted severe injuries on Hun Tiandi, who required a thousand years to recover 184.
During that millennium, Hun Tiandi concealed the Soul Clan’s strength and pursued the Eight Ancient Jades. Their completed form could open Tou She Ancient God’s Cave Mansion, whose Emperor Pill Embryo and Heavenly Flame inheritance offered a path beyond peak Dou Saint cultivation 33 43 169.
Following the Xiao Clan’s decline, the Soul Clan and Gu Clan became rivals. Each regarded the other as the principal obstacle to unifying the continent 44.
Appearance
Hun Tiandi’s scholarly appearance contrasts sharply with the Soul Clan’s sinister reputation 46 179.
- Apparent age: Around thirty 46.
- Features: Handsome, with unusually bright eyes 46.
- Clothing: Grayish-white or elegant light-colored robes rather than the black robes associated with many Soul Clan members 46 179.
- Demeanor: Refined and seemingly frail, yet capable of intimidating even Six-Star Dou Saints with a silent stare 123.
Personality
Hun Tiandi is decisive, ruthless, and intolerant of evasiveness. His authority within the Soul Clan is absolute; Hun Miesheng reports directly because he knows the patriarch dislikes unnecessary preamble, while Hun Ye fears punishment despite his own Six-Star Dou Saint strength 46 123.
His caution is strategic rather than timid. He avoids exposing hidden forces without confidence of victory, withdraws from battles once their objectives are achieved, and refuses costly retaliation merely to defend the clan’s pride. Even when the Soul Clan can confront several ancient clans together, he prefers defeating them separately 168 169 173 186.
He enjoys provoking Gu Yuan and exploiting his emotions. This culminates in his order to capture and humiliate Gu Xun’er during their final confrontation, driving Gu Yuan into a fatal self-destruction 181 199.
His ambition can also distort his judgment. He mistakenly treats his theory about the Xiao Clan’s missing jade as established fact, and initially underestimates Jiang Xing’s advancement. He values completing the Millennium Plan above the survival of other Soul Clan members 174 193.
Abilities & Skills
Nine-Star Dou Saint Combat Power
Hun Tiandi possesses overwhelming strength against lower-ranked Dou Saints 172 200.
- Kills Seven-Star Dou Saint Yao Dan before he can self-destruct 172.
- Disperses the Gu Clan Progenitor’s remnant soul with a single palm strike 200.
- Kills Yan Jin with a full-force attack and prevents Lei Ying from approaching closely enough to use self-destruction effectively 200.
- Destroys most of Jia Nan Academy with one palm; the residual force kills those outside the direct impact 200.
- Limit: He and Nihility Devouring Flame sustain substantial injuries against the Emperor Pill Embryo and cannot subdue it through combat alone 201.
Military Strategy and Command
Hun Tiandi organizes campaigns around specific objectives rather than prolonged battles 173 180.
- Conceals four Eight-Star Dou Saint elders as a reserve force 169 172.
- Coordinates the Yao Clan assault with jade thefts while enemy reinforcements leave their territories poorly defended 173.
- Assigns opponents according to strength, personally taking Gu Yuan while Nihility Devouring Flame handles Yan Jin and Lei Ying 180.
- Recruits Jiang Xing and Zi Yan with Heavenly Flames and Ninth-Rank Treasure Pills to secure two additional Eight-Star Dou Saints 178.
- Deliberately understates the strength of enemy progenitor remnant souls to keep his recruits from withdrawing before battle 180.
Intelligence and Political Manipulation
Hun Tiandi maintains infiltrators within rival clans and uses their information to adapt his plans 194.
- Infers possible Gu Clan involvement in the missing Xiao Clan jade from a Golden Emperor Burning Flame Child Flame found beside Xiao Yan’s corpse 46.
- Uses reports of a Gu Clan raid on the Hall of Souls as a propaganda opportunity before the planned Yao Clan attack 159.
- Learns confidential hostage-exchange terms through spies who survive the three clans’ internal investigations 194.
- Encourages rivalry between Hun Feng and Hun Yu by promising succession to whichever first reaches Seven-Star Dou Saint within fifty years 195.
Gates of Oblivion
Hun Tiandi uses the Gates of Oblivion as a prepared battlefield for trapping enemy experts 174 187.
- Orders the four elders to construct and later relocate the formation to the Du Jian Mountain Range 174 195.
- Bears its mark, allowing him to enter and leave without being invaded by its deathly aura 199.
- Uses its interception of communication to prevent Gu Yuan’s crushed Jade Slip from summoning reinforcements 199.
- Stations the four elders outside to maintain the formation and stop rescuers 199.
- Limit: Gu Yuan’s self-destruction destroys the Gates 199.
Equipment / Items
- Eight Ancient Jades / Tou She Ancient God Jade — Eventually gathers all eight fragments. He uses essence blood to join them, then follows Nihility Devouring Flame’s instructions to reveal the cave mansion’s location 200.
- Emperor Pill Embryo — His intended breakthrough resource, not a successfully acquired possession. He abandons his attempt to seize the transformed pill to evade three potentially lethal attacks 201.
Relationships
- Gu Yuan — Long-standing rival and cultivation equal. Hun Tiandi repeatedly targets his clan, manipulates his concern for Gu Xun’er, and leads the ambush that ends in his death 43 181 199.
- Nihility Devouring Flame — Essential collaborator in clan-strengthening operations, warfare, and opening the ancient mansion. Hun Tiandi increasingly distrusts him but remains dependent on his knowledge 174 180 201.
- Hun Miesheng — Hall of Souls master and subordinate responsible for soul collection and obtaining the Xiao Clan’s jade 43 46 159.
- Hun Ye — Subordinate whose failed Bodhi Seed mission draws Hun Tiandi’s scrutiny; subsequently sent to check preparations against the Stone Clan 123.
- Hun Feng and Hun Yu — God Grade Bloodline talents placed in competition for the next patriarch’s position 195.
- Soul Clan Four Elders — Hidden Eight-Star Dou Saint forces entrusted with preparing and maintaining the Gates of Oblivion 172 174 199.
- Jiang Xing — Persistent disruptor, temporary paid ally, and eventual killer. Jiang Xing repeatedly exploits gaps in Hun Tiandi’s information 153 174 178 201.
- Zi Yan — Recruited alongside Jiang Xing, but later escapes with him after betraying the Soul Clan’s expectations 178 180 186.
- Xiao Xuan — Former opponent whose dying resistance inflicted injuries that took Hun Tiandi a millennium to recover from 184.
- Zhu Kun — Fellow Late-Stage Nine-Star Dou Saint; briefly encountered at the mansion entrance and later part of the group that takes the Emperor Pill Embryo 200 201.
Story Role / Major Arcs
The Missing Xiao Clan Jade
- Orders Hun Miesheng to obtain the Xiao Clan’s ancient jade 43.
- Questions Yin Shan after Xiao Yan’s corpse is recovered without it, concluding that the protector probably did not conceal the jade 46.
- Suspects Gu Yuan killed Xiao Yan and planted the corpse to frame the Soul Clan. This incorrect theory persists long enough to derail his later calculations 46 174.
Bodhi Seeds and the Millennium Plan
- Sends Six-Star Dou Saint Hun Ye to seize the Bodhi resources despite inter-clan agreements 118.
- Abandons further pursuit after the Ancient Void Dragons intervene, prioritizing secrecy and preparations against the Stone Clan 123 124.
- Responds to Jiang Xing’s continued interference by ordering his assassination, while restraining broader action that might jeopardize the Millennium Plan 153.
War Against the Ancient Clans
- Seals and relocates the Hun Realm after the failed Yao Clan operation, denying the Four-Clan Alliance a direct confrontation 168.
- Later personally leads a blitz that annihilates the Yao Clan and kills Yao Dan 172.
- Uses the resulting battle to facilitate thefts of the Gu, Yan, and Lei Clans’ jades 173.
- Discovers that only three jades were recovered rather than the expected four. Unaware that Jiang Xing holds the Xiao Clan fragment, he concludes that Gu Yuan must have kept it personally 174.
Temporary Alliance with Jiang Xing
- Purchases Jiang Xing and Zi Yan’s assistance for an assault on the Three-Clan Alliance 178 180.
- Initially celebrates their defeat of the Yan Clan Progenitor as proof that the bargain was worthwhile 182.
- After their betrayal and escape, rejects an immediate attack on the Ancient Void Dragons, preferring to wait for conflict between them and the hostage-seeking clans 186.
- Accelerates the Gates of Oblivion plan when that expected conflict fails to materialize 187.
Final Campaign and Defeat
- Relocates the Gates to the planned hostage-exchange site, unknowingly following Jiang Xing’s attempt to delay the war for fifty years 195.
- Ambushes Gu Yuan, cuts off his reinforcements, and provokes the self-destruction that kills him 199.
- Immediately attacks the remaining alliance. After its destruction, the Soul Clan obtains the final jade planted on the battlefield by Jiang Xing’s puppet 200.
- Reassembles the jade, locates the mansion beneath Jia Nan Academy, and massacres the academy before uncovering its entrance 200.
- Fights the Emperor Pill Embryo with Nihility Devouring Flame, only for Jiang Xing’s group to intervene after it is transformed into a pill 201.
- Attempts to rally the Soul Clan against the intruders, but Ancient Void Dragon reinforcements arrive. He escapes through a spatial rift and is ultimately killed by Jiang Xing 201.
