Background / History

At age six, Naruto receives the memories of his next eleven years. The memories are verified as genuine by Jiraiya, who recognizes details only he and Minato knew, and their intelligence exposes future threats including Orochimaru’s planned attack on Konoha, Akatsuki, Pain, Obito, Madara, and the Uchiha massacre. The Third Hokage classifies the matter among Konoha’s highest secrets. 2

The knowledge leaves Naruto feeling disconnected from the lonely child he remembers being, while burdening him with the prospect of a future in which the Nine-Tails is extracted from him and he dies. Rather than follow his future self’s path unchanged, he resolves to become Hokage and begins intensive training with Shadow Clones. 3 6

Naruto is the son of Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage, and Kushina Uzumaki, the previous Nine-Tails Jinchūriki.
