Background

Bowei was a leading scholar of Academy City whose knowledge extended across professions, historical theories, and space-time. He became extraordinarily valuable across multiple eras because god-level scholars were otherwise absent; the Desolate Territory Faction therefore allowed him to become Zhao Xing’s Dao Protector. 7

He accompanied Zhao Xing into Divine King Zhang Yue’s Moon Shadow Realm. After both spent sixty years surveying the palace city and its lifeforms, Bowei employed historical spells, the Omniscient Divine Art, and Golden Cicada True Form to recreate part of its history and penetrate its defenses. 12

As Academy City’s Grand Elder, Bowei opened the eighth Scholar Dharma Realm, located the World Transfer Tower, and organized a World Transfer Dharma Assembly for researchers of the Profound Spirit Star Region. His treatment of Zhao Xing’s True Spirit Heavenly Poison and his discovery of the tower caused his prestige to surge. 107 Behind this public success, he pursued a God Creation Project and was believed to have sacrificed more than fifty thousand Reincarnation Realm cultivators in an attempt to create a god. 107

Bowei’s manipulation of the World Transfer Tower sought to break the innate restrictions that prevented scholars from freely fighting and attaining godhood. He absorbed historical tribulations and controlled illusory historical events within the tower, but the resulting space-time disturbances brought pressure from multiple major factions. 78 190 316

After being confined by the Reincarnation Divine Palace, Bowei was offered limited freedom and became Zhao Xing’s third Dao Protector under the restraint of the Great Dao Golden Circlet. The arrangement prevented him from harming Zhao Xing while preserving much of his Divine General-level power. 267

Bowei ultimately aided Zhao Xing in resolving Zhang Yue’s karmic oath, then removed the circlet, divided his professional systems through the Ten-Thousand Bodies realm, and departed. He stated that he would return in the future to claim fulfillment of Zhao Xing’s promise. 685

He is notably cold toward others, including former associates. General Lan Chuan condemns him as heartless and faithless after Bowei refuses a dying Feng Chen’s wish to speak with him. 145 His fury is rare but intense: when Old Man Shu Ji admitted to imitating one of Bowei’s deceased friends, Bowei immediately attempted to strike him down. 156

Despite this ruthlessness, Bowei claims that his aim is to lead Academy City and humanity toward a better future. His later actions as Zhao Xing’s protector—treating Zhao Xing, sharing knowledge, intervening in dangerous situations, and negotiating better karmic terms—give Zhao Xing a conflicted but ultimately appreciative view of him. 107 685
