Background
Bowei was a leading scholar of Academy City whose knowledge extended across professions, historical theories, and space-time. He became extraordinarily valuable across multiple eras because god-level scholars were otherwise absent; the Desolate Territory Faction therefore allowed him to become Zhao Xing’s Dao Protector. 7
He accompanied Zhao Xing into Divine King Zhang Yue’s Moon Shadow Realm. After both spent sixty years surveying the palace city and its lifeforms, Bowei employed historical spells, the Omniscient Divine Art, and Golden Cicada True Form to recreate part of its history and penetrate its defenses. 12
As Academy City’s Grand Elder, Bowei opened the eighth Scholar Dharma Realm, located the World Transfer Tower, and organized a World Transfer Dharma Assembly for researchers of the Profound Spirit Star Region. His treatment of Zhao Xing’s True Spirit Heavenly Poison and his discovery of the tower caused his prestige to surge. 107 Behind this public success, he pursued a God Creation Project and was believed to have sacrificed more than fifty thousand Reincarnation Realm cultivators in an attempt to create a god. 107
Bowei’s manipulation of the World Transfer Tower sought to break the innate restrictions that prevented scholars from freely fighting and attaining godhood. He absorbed historical tribulations and controlled illusory historical events within the tower, but the resulting space-time disturbances brought pressure from multiple major factions. 78 190 316
After being confined by the Reincarnation Divine Palace, Bowei was offered limited freedom and became Zhao Xing’s third Dao Protector under the restraint of the Great Dao Golden Circlet. The arrangement prevented him from harming Zhao Xing while preserving much of his Divine General-level power. 267
Bowei ultimately aided Zhao Xing in resolving Zhang Yue’s karmic oath, then removed the circlet, divided his professional systems through the Ten-Thousand Bodies realm, and departed. He stated that he would return in the future to claim fulfillment of Zhao Xing’s promise. 685
Appearance
Bowei’s appearance changes with his profession-based forms and Golden Cicada incarnations. His usual scholar form is cold and stern, though his demeanor became gentler after reaching the Eight-Realm Scholar stage. 317
- Often changes clothing to match the profession he is studying, including martial artist, Fate Master, and Historical Scholar attire. 7 33
- His Historical Scholar form wears robes surrounded by a cyan History River and bronze gates. 12
- Originally bore a black three-leaf-clover mark on his forehead; it later changed into a golden ancient character meaning “Realm.” 317
- While under Reincarnation Divine Palace supervision, he wore clean robes, a white-jade hairpin, and the Great Dao Golden Circlet. 267
Personality
Bowei is highly pragmatic, calculating, and willing to direct events toward outcomes he considers necessary. He readily advises Zhao Xing to use political scapegoats, dismissing sentimental objections when discussing the dangers of changing history. 33
He is notably cold toward others, including former associates. General Lan Chuan condemns him as heartless and faithless after Bowei refuses a dying Feng Chen’s wish to speak with him. 145 His fury is rare but intense: when Old Man Shu Ji admitted to imitating one of Bowei’s deceased friends, Bowei immediately attempted to strike him down. 156
Despite this ruthlessness, Bowei claims that his aim is to lead Academy City and humanity toward a better future. His later actions as Zhao Xing’s protector—treating Zhao Xing, sharing knowledge, intervening in dangerous situations, and negotiating better karmic terms—give Zhao Xing a conflicted but ultimately appreciative view of him. 107 685

Golden Cicada True Form
Bowei’s principal duplication and transformation method creates real bodies associated with different professions.
- Used the Dual Body form while recreating the Moon Shadow Realm. 12
- Reached ten thousand layers, allowing him to split off specialized bodies such as Fate Master Bowei. 130
- Produced professional bodies including martial artists, Agricultural Officials, priests, musicians, swordsmen, and dance masters. 124
- Reached the Ten-Thousand Bodies realm and separated his professional systems from his scholar true body before departing. 685
Multidisciplinary Combat
As a scholar with access to numerous professional systems, Bowei has no single fixed combat style.
- His forms wield techniques from martial cultivation, music, fate calculation, agricultural cultivation, mechanisms, and more. 124 145
- His immortal music can disrupt spellcasting and compel affected targets to heed it like an imperial command. 140
- His Destroyer form possesses a destructive will that annihilates surrounding matter and can even disrupt divine-soul observation. 140
- Even a Golden Cicada avatar was considered capable of contending for Fate Master supreme treasures and advancing into a Destiny God King. 140
Treatment and Instruction
Bowei possesses advanced healing, teaching, and cultivation-guidance methods.
- Repeated a treatment process daily for two hundred years beside Zhao Xing’s ice coffin. 107
- Cured or substantially stabilized Zhao Xing’s True Spirit Heavenly Poison, enabling Zhao Xing’s eventual recovery. 107
- Altered the poison’s arrangement into True Spirit Soul Armor, allowing Zhao Xing to pass through a dangerous Void Historical Event without being detected. 328
- Taught Zhao Xing theories of True History space-time, gave him the Thousand Thread Fruit, and traded him the Golden Cicada True Form: Dual Body. 7 685
